Dear Prospective Candidate,
Thank you for your interest in becoming a candidate for the Student Senate Cabinet. In this candidate packet you will find basic information about the Student Senate and the election process. There are nineteen paid positions available through election.
Four positions will be required to post ten office hours per week and will be paid $3000 per semester. These positions are:
The Student Body President
The Student Trustee
The Director of Student Affairs
The Director of Finance
Additionally there are fifteen councilor positions (CSC) available with three representatives from each college. They will be required to post four office hours per week and will be paid $1000 each semester. These positions are:
Three Councilors from the College of Natural and Health Sciences
Three Councilors from the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences
Three Councilors from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences
Three Councilors from the Monfort College of Business
Three Councilors from the College of Performing and Visual Arts
It is imperative that you review all information and complete all necessary paperwork. The following three listed requirements must be completed to be eligible for a Student Senate position. Additionally, letters of recommendation are highly encouraged.
1. Letter of Intent Form: If you decide to seek a Student Senate position after reviewing this packet and attending an informational meeting, you must turn in this form to Student Activities to verify your intent and declare the specific position you desire.
2. Application for Candidacy and Waiver of Privacy (same form): Due Friday, February 26 th at 5:00 p.m. The top section of this document must be completed. Your response to the optional questions may be released for publication. All positions require you to have a cumulative GPA of a 2.5 or higher.
3. Petition for Candidacy: Due Friday, February 26 th at 5:00 p.m. You will need to attain two UNC faculty signatures and 50 valid student signatures (undergraduate or graduate current UNC students ) to be eligible to run for office.
If signatures are found to be non-valid they will be discarded. Therefore, it is highly advised that you get more than 50 signatures to avoid this unfortunate circumstance .
In addition to completing these brief forms, you must attend one of the following informational meetings in order to receive required information about the election process and appropriate campaigning practices:

Tuesday, February 2 nd in the UC-Spruce A @ 12:00 PM

Wednesday, February 10 th in the UC- Student Senate Office @ 7:00 PM
