1. THIS MILPER MESSAGE WILL EXPIRE NLT 23 AUG 13
2. THE ANNUAL ARMY SPECIAL OPERATIONS FORCES (ARSOF) BOARD WILL BE CONDUCTED
ON OR ABOUT 16 APRIL 2012 - 20 APRIL 2012. THE PURPOSE OF THIS BOARD IS TO SELECT
HIGHLY QUALIFIED COMMISSIONED OFFICERS FOR AN OPPORTUNITY TO ATTEND SPECIAL
FORCES (SF) ASSESSMENT AND SELECTION; MILITARY INFORMATION SUPPORT OPERATIONS
ASSESSMENT AND SELECTION (MISOAS); AND CIVIL AFFAIRS SCREENING.
A. SPECIAL FORCES, CIVIL AFFAIRS, AND PSYCHOLOGICAL OPERATIONS BRANCHES ARE
NON-ACCESSIONS BRANCHES. THE ARSOF BOARD IS THE SINGLE POINT OF ACCESSION INTO
THE RESPECTIVE BRANCHES.
B. OFFICERS WILL OML THEIR PREFERENCE FOR EACH OF THE 3 ARSOF BRANCHES: CA, PO,
AND SF, ON THEIR RESUME. OFFICERS MAY LIST ONE, TWO, OR ALL THREE ARSOF
BRANCHES ON THEIR RESUME.
C. UPON SELECTION BY THE ARSOF BOARD, THE OFFICER'S CONTROL BRANCH WILL
IMMEDIATELY BE CHANGED TO FACILITATE THE OFFICER’S COMPLETION OF THE RESPECTIVE
TRAINING PIPELINE. AN OFFICER’S BASIC BRANCH WILL NOT CHANGE UNTIL GRADUATION
FROM THE RESPECTIVE QUALIFICATION COURSE.
D. OFFICERS WHO DO NOT COMPLETE TRAINING WILL BE RETURNED TO THEIR BASIC
BRANCH FOR FURTHER ASSIGNMENT.
E. OFFICERS CAN REFERENCE DA PAM 600-3 FOR MORE DETAILS ON EACH BRANCH.
3. ELIGIBILITY:
A. ACTIVE COMPONENT OFFICERS FROM YG 2009, WITH A DATE OF RANK TO 1LT BETWEEN 01
APR 10 THRU 31 MAR 11. OFFICERS FROM ALL ARMY BRANCHES MAY APPLY.
B. US ARMY RESERVE AND ARMY NATIONAL GUARD OFFICERS ARE INELIGIBLE TO APPLY FOR
THE ARSOF BOARD.
C. POSSESS A BACCALAUREATE DEGREE OR ENROLLED IN THE DEGREE COMPLETION
PROGRAM. OFFICER MUST POSSESS A BACCALAUREATE DEGREE NLT THE START DATE OF
THE RESPECTIVE QUALIFICATION COURSE.
D. POSSESS A DEFENSE LANGUAGE APTITUDE BATTERY (DLAB) SCORE OF 85 AND ABOVE OR
DEMONSTRATE LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY ON THE DLPT WITH A SCORE OF 1/1 OR HIGHER IN A
TARGET LANGUAGE. DLPT MUST BE COMPLETED WITHIN THE LAST YEAR.
E. AIRBORNE QUALIFIED, OR WILLING TO VOLUNTEER FOR AIRBORNE TRAINING, AND ABLE
TO CONDUCT AIRBORNE OPERATIONS.
F. MEDICALLY CLEARED FOR WORLD-WIDE DEPLOYMENT.
G. ALL MALE CANDIDATES MUST POSSESS A VALID SF PHYSICAL AND ALL FEMALE
CANDIDATES MUST POSSESS A VALID SERE-C PHYSICAL, COMPLETED WITHIN THE LAST
YEAR.
H. BE ELIGIBLE TO OBTAIN AND MAINTAIN A TOP-SECRET CLEARANCE.
4. ALL REQUESTS FOR INFORMATION, WAIVERS, REQUIREMENTS AND POINTS OF CONTACTS
FOR ARSOF BOARD PACKET SUBMISSION ARE LOCATED AT THE FOLLOWING WEBSITE:

A. AHRC WILL ONLY ACCEPT ARSOF BOARD PACKETS FROM THE SORB. IT IS THE
APPLICANT’S RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE THEIR PACKET IS COMPLETE, HAS BEEN RECEIVED
BY THE SORB, AND WILL GO BEFORE THE ARSOF BOARD.
B. AHRC WILL NOT ACCEPT PACKETS FOR THE ARSOF BOARD AFTER 17 FEB 12.
C. THE ARSOF BOARD WILL EVALUATE RECORDS IN THE OFFICER’S RESTRICTED FILE, TO
INCLUDE MASKED OERS. OFFICERS WHO DO NOT CONSENT TO GRANTING RESTRICTED FILE
ACCESS WILL NOT BE SEEN BY THE BOARD.
D. APPLICANTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ENSURING THEIR OMPF, ORB, AND DA PHOTO ARE
COMPLETE AND ACCURATE PRIOR TO CONVENING OF THE BOARD.
E. THE OFFICER’S RESUME, APFT CARD, AND PHOTO, IF DA PHOTO FACILITY IS UNAVAILABLE
DUE TO DEPLOYMENT, MUST BE SAVED AND ELECTRONICALLY SUBMITTED TO THE SORB
UTILIZING THE FOLLOWING NAMING CONVENTION:

3) SSN_LASTNAME_PHOTO.PDF (IF DA PHOTO IS UNAVAILABLE DUE TO DEPLOYMENT ONLY)

5. SELECTED SF VOLUNTEERS WILL FIRST ATTEND SPECIAL FORCES ASSESSMENT AND
SELECTION (SFAS), A 19 DAY TDY AND RETURN COURSE, AT THE FIRST AVAILABLE
OPPORTUNITY. OFFICERS WHO SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE SFAS WILL THEN PCS TO ATTEND
A SPECIAL FORCES APPROVED CAPTAINS CAREER COURSE (MCCC), FOLLOWED BY A PCS TO
FORT BRAGG TO ATTEND THE SPECIAL FORCES DETACHMENT OFFICER QUALIFICATION
COURSE (SFDOQC). OFFICERS WILL ATTEND AIRBORNE SCHOOL TDY ENROUTE, AS
REQUIRED.
6. SELECTED CA VOLUNTEERS WILL ATTEND CIVIL AFFAIRS SCREENING, A 10 DAY TDY AND
RETURN COURSE, AT THE FIRST AVAILABLE OPPORTUNITY. OFFICERS WHO SUCCESSFULLY
COMPLETE CIVIL AFFAIRS SCREENING WILL PCS TO A MANEUVER OR MANEUVER SUPPORT
CAPTAINS CAREER COURSE (CCC), AND TDY COURSES AS REQUIRED (AIRBORNE, SERE-C).
CANDIDATES WILL THEN PCS TO FORT BRAGG TO ATTEND THE CIVIL AFFAIRS QUALIFICATION
COURSE (CAQC).
7. PSYCHOLOGICAL OPERATIONS OFFICERS WILL FIRST ATTEND MILITARY INFORMATION
SUPPORT OPERATIONS ASSESSMENT AND SELECTION (MISOAS), A 10 DAY TDY AND RETURN
COURSE, AT THE FIRST AVAILABLE OPPORTUNITY. OFFICERS WHO SUCCESSFULLY
COMPLETE MISOAS WILL PCS TO EITHER THE MANEUVER OR MILITARY INTELLIGENCE CCC
AND TDY COURSES AS REQUIRED (AIRBORNE, SERE-C), FOLLOWED BY PCS TO FORT BRAGG
TO ATTEND THE MILITARY INFORMATION SUPPORT OPERATIONS QUALIFICATION COURSE
(MISOQC).
8. OFFICERS AND SOLDIERS SELECTED FOR ARSOF ACCESSIONS ARE EXEMPT FROM STOPMOVE, (D-90, DEPLOYMENT, D+90) TO ATTEND RESPECTIVE TDY SELECTION COURSES AND
PCS TRAINING COURSES AT THE EARLIEST POSSIBLE COURSE DATES (MILPER 11-004). PCS
TRAINING COURSES INCLUDE THE CAPTAINS CAREER COURSE, SF QUALIFICATION COURSE,
CA QUALIFICATION COURSE, AND MISO QUALIFICATION COURSE. OFFICERS AND SOLDIERS
WHO ARE SELECTED AND SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE A RESPECTIVE ASSESSMENT AND
SELECTION COURSE OR CA SCREENING COURSE WILL REMAIN EXEMPT FROM STOP-MOVE
AND BE ALLOWED TO PCS TO ATTEND THE CAPTAINS CAREER COURSE AND RESPECTIVE
QUALIFICATION COURSES AT THE EARLIEST AVAILABLE COURSE DATE.
9. OFFICERS WHO SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE THE CIVIL AFFAIRS QUALIFICATION COURSE
(CAQC), MILITARY INFORMATION SUPPORT OPERATIONS QUALIFICATION COURSE (MISOQC)
OR SPECIAL FORCES DETACHMENT OFFICER QUALIFICATION COURSE (SFDOQC) WILL INCUR
A 36-MONTH ADSO TO BEGIN ON COMPLETION OF THE COURSE. THIS ADSO WILL BE SERVED
IN A CIVIL AFFAIRS, PSYCHOLOGICAL OPERATIONS, OR SPECIAL FORCES POSITION IAW AR
350-100, SEC 2-7, PARA N & P. OFFICERS WHO ARE TERMINATED FROM ANY ARSOF
QUALIFICATION COURSE WILL INCUR AN ADSO CALCULATED IAW AR350-100 AND WILL BE
RETURNED TO THEIR BASIC BRANCH FOR FURTHER REASSIGNMENT.
10. RESULTS WILL BE ANNOUNCED ON OR ABOUT 04 MAY12 AND WILL BE PUBLISHED BY
MILPER MESSAGE. LOCAL COMMANDERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO FAMILIARIZE THEMSELVES
WITH THE ARSOF TRAINING PIPELINE AND APPLICATION PROCEDURES IN ORDER TO MINIMIZE
THE IMPACT TO THEIR UNIT AND THE SELECTED OFFICERS.
