UCSB GUARDIAN SCHOLARS CONSTITUTION
ARTICLE I: NAME
A) The official name of the organization is:
UCSB GUARDIAN SCHOLARS
ARTICLE II: PURPOSE
A) The organization’s purpose is:
To serve as an academic, social and personal support for UCSB students who
are either former or current foster youth.
ARTICLE III: MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS
A) Voting members of this organization must meet one or more of the
following requirements:
1) Have indicated on their FAFSA application that they have been or
are in foster care
2) Have some variation of similar or relatable experience to the
background of the general foster youth population.
3) Have a desire to join as a supportive and empathizing member if
wants to join but does not resonate with the foster care system in
any way.
ARTICLE IV: OFFICERS/ELECTIONS
A) The titles and duties of the officers of this organization shall be:

President
Plan and conduct meetings
Secretary
Take notes during the meetings and email them
to all members.
Media Coordinator
Keeps internet resources updated
Treasurer
Tracks all income and use of money; Records
budget
Outreach Coordinator
Updates group on SIOP meetings and deadlines;
Coordinates outreach/awareness events
B) The term of office shall be: One School Year/9 months
C) The requirements for persons running for and holding office shall be: Sincere
interest and some degree of experience.
D) The nomination and election of officers is held: During meetings among all
members or between meetings among only executive officers (dependent on
number of candidates and difficulty level of election.)
E) The nomination of officers is conducted as follows:
1) All candidates provide reasoning for qualification and interest (for self or
others) during meeting or per email once position opens and is advertised.
F) The election of officers is conducted as follows:
1a) Members of org vote at meeting
-or1b) Executive officers decide during executive meetings
G) Officers may be removed from office by the following procedures:
1) Executive consensus only
H) Vacancies occurring in any elective office between regular election times are
filled as follows:
1) Executives announce open position
2) Members apply and provide reasoning of qualification and interest
3) Executive members make conclusion
ARTICLE V: MEETINGS
List any requirements for frequency of meetings, quorum, procedures (such as using
Robert’s Rules of Order), etc.
A. Meetings of this organization are conducted according to the following
requirements:
1) Safe Space/Respect of Confidentiality & Self-Expression

A. This organization is affiliated with the following off-campus, local, state, and/or

ARTICLE VIII: FINANCIAL MATTERS
A. The following requirements shall be followed in all financial matters of the
organization:

ARTICLE IX: CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS
A. This constitution may be amended as follows:
1) By President only with affirmation of Faculty Advisor
2) No more than one time per year
