conditions:
-it employs fewer than 250 persons;
-its annual turnover is below €50m (approximately £45m)
-its balance sheet is below €43m (approximately £39m)
-its business is not a subsidiary and /or under the control of a larger non SME entity

Non-independent Enterprises can still be eligible providing you can respond positively to one of the following three
statements. If you cannot demonstrate A, B or C, the company is ineligible to receive ESF support as an SME.
A - That the owning organisation meets all of the SME criteria i.e. employee numbers turnover and balance sheet
B - The enterprise is held by public investment corporations, venture capital companies or institutional investors that
DO NOT exercise control either jointly or individually
C - If the capital is spread in such a way that it is not possible to identify by whom it is held and the enterprise declares
it legitimately presumes it is not owned by one or more enterprise not fitting the SME criteria

Terms and Conditions
a) Fully funded for employees or volunteers of an SME – an independent small to medium enterprise with fewer than 250
employees – places on the course will be confirmed once SME status has been determined.
b) Delegates must be aged 19+ years
c) Delegates must be eligible to live and work in the UK
d) SMEs must be located within Greater London
e) If a volunteer, must be volunteering for a minimum of 8 hours per week and have a volunteering contract
f) City and Islington College requires a minimum of 10 attendees to run the course and reserves the right to cancel the
course should there be fewer than 10 delegates
g) City and Islington College reserves the right to cancel a course if delegate numbers are low. Where City and Islington
College decides to cancel a course, delegates will be offered an alternative course and date where possible.
h) To cancel, City and Islington College requires a minimum of 10 working days written notice if delegates are not able to
attend
i) City and Islington College will seek to recoup a £50 per delegate fee for non-attendees where 10 days written notice has
not been given
