Dear friends,
I'm willing to give you a report of the Young internists Assembly and of the
Administrative Council of EFIM that was held in Helsinki few days ago.
I'm writing you in English because we have some "special guests" of our newsletter: Carla Araujo (the new Young Internists chair), Frauke Weidanz
(the new YI secretary). I put in the newsletter also prof. Nica Cappellini, EFIM president that most of you already know, and prof. G.R. Corazza, our national president. These are some key points of our meeting:
1) Internal Medicine European CV: this is one ambitious but very interesting project that aims to standardize Internal Medicine education programs across
Europe. I guess that we can be helpful to EFIM in this project, because most of us are still residents. Our Education Working Group (directed by
Alessandro Grembiale) can try to understand the needs of the italian Internal
Medicine Residents. For this reason i guess that we may submit italian residents a questionnaire during our next congress in which investigate their needs about education programs. What's your opinion about that?
2) Exchange programme: this is another great initiative of EFIM Young
Internist. Carla is one of the promoter of this programs that gives italian residents the opportunity to spend one month in a prestigious internal medicine department across europe. Every nations can send 2 (up to 5, depending on the support of our Society) residents abroad and maybe our national society will be involved in the selection process. Maristella is likely to join the project, maybe she will spend one month in Paris. Her feedback could be helpful in order to promote the project to the others italian resident. I will quickly send you the flyer and i think we can promote this program in our forthcoming regional congress and maybe expose the flyer in our GIS-area at the national congress.
3) Web: I told Carla about our Facebook page, and she really appreciated our work. We can add in our public page also the others YI (most of the post are scientific article that our GIS-president Lorenzo Falsetti daily updates).
Moreover i would like to introduce Carla (that is able to read and understand
a little of italian) and Frauke (even if she can't speak italian) in our closed FB group in order to involve YI in the organization of our projects. What do you think about?
4) European School of Internal Medicine: As most of you know Italy will host
ESIM from 2014-2016, that will be held in the lovely location of Villasimius in
Sardinia (i guess the same of italian summer school). Prof. Montano showed the outlines of the school and everybody appreciated this project. I had a separate and informal conversation with prof. Montano and I told him that GIS group completely support the organization of ESIM. In this regard, Maristella and Vincenzo (the Sardinia representative) could be helpful. Moreover i will separate ask Fiorella the contact of the italian ESIM participants in order to take their feedback of their experience and maybe try to involve them in the
GIS/YI activities.
5) Research: EFIM Rare Disease WG is doing very well. Our Lorenzo Dagna will keep us informed about future initiative. Moreover i spoke with Carla about our study-project, the GIS-ITALY. We talked about extending the project to the european network. This is an option to consider only after the final version of the protocol and, of course, the approval of our National Board
Every suggestions and comments are very appreciated. In conclusion i was very honored to represent all of you in the YI Assembly, i think we are doing an excellent work in Italy but we must continue on this road with our enthusiasm, our competence and our cohesion. Furthermore, i will spend all my energy to build up a strong link between GIS and YI, because, as Carla told us during the presentation of her candidacy, "Together we are stronger".
Warm regards to all of you,
Alberto
