EFIM Institutional Membership
EFIM Institutional members join the mutual efforts of EFIM member societies to
promote all aspects of internal medicine within Europe. The aims of the Federation,
set out in the Statutes, are to promote scientific and educational activities between
the national societies and other interested bodies in the field of internal medicine.
Internal medicine in Europe, as in North America, is increasingly recognised as a
central element in healthcare provision and forms the basis of medical education at
both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
A healthy and prosperous federation will permit forward planning of CME activities and
scientific research. The membership fees of Institutional members allow forward
planning of such activities. Institutional members make contracts with EFIM for a
period of three years and the current Institutional membership fee is €10,000 per year
as a basic contribution with opportunities for greater levels of sponsorship depending
on the activities involved. Institutional members have no voting rights under the
Statutes and cannot hold office, but the following benefits are applicable:

About EFIM
The European Federation of Internal Medicine is a scientific organisation founded in
1996 from the European Association of Internal Medicine. The Federation brings
together the National Societies of Internal Medicine of different countries across
Europe, representing over 30,000 internists. The purpose is to re-emphasise the
importance of Internal Medicine in patient care in a world of increasing specialisation.
In 2007, EFIM decided to hold an annual scientific congress (previously congresses had
been held every 2 years). The European Journal of Internal Medicine (EJIM) is the
official journal of EFIM. There are close links with the European Union through the
Mono-specialty Committee of UEMS (Union of European Medical Specialists), and ISIM
(International Society of Internal Medicine)
