Daniel J. Moran, Ph.D., BCBA-D Brief Biography I’d prefer my biography to reflect the most vital and meaningful things in my life, so I should prioritize writing about my family, friends, and love for heavy metal. Alas, this is a professional biography, so it is more appropriate to focus on the fact that I am the founder of the MidAmerican Psychological Institute, a thriving behavior therapy clinic in Chicagoland. I am also the founder of Pickslyde Consulting, an organization aimed at using evidence-based applications to improve performance and wellness in the workplace. After founding both companies, and hiring excellent people to help me run them, I was then hired to be the Senior Vice-President for Quality Safety Edge, a pioneering organization aimed at implementing behavior-based safety processes worldwide. I earned my Ph.D. from Hofstra in 1998, and then worked as a university professor for a decade. My professors provided a great foundation for my interest in applying behavioral science to a broad number of domains, and I have published in the areas of basic science, education, clinical work, leadership, and safety. In January 2013, those same professors who mentored me also honored me with the Alumnus of the Month Award. In the clinical domain, I founded the MidAmerican Psychological Institute in 2001. My colleagues and I have provided evidence-based therapy and psychodiagnostics to several thousand clients in Chicagoland. My clinic is a proud member of the National Health Service Corps, and also a training site for future psychologists and counselors. I have provided certification supervision for over 100 behavioral health practitioners in the last decade. In addition, I co-authored a book entitled ACT in Practice: Case Conceptualization in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy with my colleague Patty Bach. Our book is now part of the training canon for new ACT therapists. In the consulting world, I published a book entitled Building Safety Commitment in an effort to help front-line workers improve their safety by learning about mindfulness and valuesbased motivation. Over the last several years, I’ve had the opportunity to bring related trainings to companies around the world in order to improve safer practices and accelerate leadership skills. I have been fortunate to give keynote addresses and guest lectures about leadership, commitment, behavior-based safety, and root cause analysis at illustrious events sponsored by OSHA and the ASSE, as well as universities & corporations around the world. In the media, I have been on-screen talent for two Discover Studios productions. I appeared on 16 episodes of Hoarding: Buried Alive and 6 episodes of Confessions: Animal Hoarding. While on these shows I assisted people on camera with evidence-based treatments, and was also interviewed about their circumstances. I am strongly committed to reducing human suffering and improving quality of living in this world. I believe helping people build stronger leadership qualities and better business skills will have a deep and broad impact on that vision, and I look forward to meaningful opportunities in that direction.
