1 Mrs. H. Spotts Revised 8/13 Name: _________________________________________________________________________ Section: _______________________ Date: __________________________ Lab Report: The Color Challenge ____________/10 points Lab Objective Students will: 1. Accurately measure liquid volume using a graduated cylinder 2. Make and record quantitative observations in a data chart 3. Make qualitative observations to describe the color of the liquid in each test tube 4. Work cooperatively with a partner Materials: 1. Three glass beakers for each colored water (red, blue, and yellow) 2. 3 10mL graduated cylinders (one for each color) 3. Three eyedroppers (one for each color) 4. Six glass test tubes labeled A, B, C, D, E, and F 5. Test tube stand 6. Protective Eye goggles Procedure: (Remember to use accurate measurements for all steps!) 1. Measure 19 ml of RED water from the beaker and pour into test tube A 2. Measure 18 ml of YELLOW water from the beaker and pour into test tube C 3. Measure 18 ml of BLUE water from the beaker and pour into test tube E 4. From test tube C, measure 4 ml of water pour into test tube D 5. Measure 7 ml of water from test tube E, pour into test tube D. Gently swirl 6. From the beaker of BLUE water, measure 4 ml of water and pour into test tube F. 7. From the beaker of RED water, measure 7 ml of water and pour into test tube F. Gently swirl. 8. From test tube A, measure 8 ml of water and add to test tube B 9. From test tube C, measure 3 ml of water and add to test tube B. Gently Swirl 10. Have test tubes checked by the teacher. Teacher signature ________________ 2 Mrs. H. Spotts Revised 8/13 DATA: Record Your Observations Qualitative Observations: Test Tube Color of Water A B C D E F Quantitative Observations: Test Tube Mathematical Calculations Final amount of Example: 3ml +4 ml -2ml = 5 ml water in ml A B C D E F Conclusions: Did your measurement match the results of the class? If yes, what did you do to ensure accuracy? If no, what were your sources of error?
