B. Student/Parent/Teacher Relationship The Elementary School conducted their Musical Production Strictly Panto in May. All students participated and teachers did an excellent job of working as a team to produce an internationally and open minded display of our english, arabic, drama / music and arts curriculum. Other events included: Family Day; Art Fair; Sports Day; I Love to Read Week; Book Fairs; United Nations; National Day; Promotion Days; Heya Beya; Maths Week; Mathsathon, Mathletics competition; Community excursion and Soccer Competitions - including an overnight Dubai competition. Weekly Assemblies for all the Elementary school have continued with each class and specialist teacher presenting and sharing their learning with the school community. The Learner Profile has been modelled, reinforced and rewarded. Parent attendance has steadily increased with very positive and supportive feedback. A weekly bulletin is prepared by the Principal and teaching faculty to keep parents up to date on the curriculum, class programme and school events. Bulletins are also posted on the class web pages and the school website. As early as September 2011 an Open Evening was held for parents of all students in Middle and High school. Teachers introduced themselves to parents and discussed information about their subjects and subject requirements. In mid-October an MYP Parents Evening was called in which general MYP concepts were shared with the main focus on Assessment. Our data-base of parent contact details has been updated so that bulk sms and email messages of urgency and importance can be forwarded to parents directly and quickly. The weekly MYP Newsletter was published on the school’s official website which details upcoming events, provides information of the weekly teaching plan for each subject, important dates and general news and pictures about student activities. Important information regarding the Middle Years Programme as per the official IBO publication, “From Principles into Practice”, is also included for the benefit of parents. Review material for examinations and work for the Winter and Summer Breaks were published on wiki's and the links shared with students and parents. Students Life & the IB Diploma Core The 2011 IB Diploma candidates successfully completed their maximum 4000 word research essays in the following subjects; Arabic A1, Arabic B, English A1, English B, Business & Management, Biology, Visual Arts, ITGS and Economics. TOK students are continuing to enjoy the experience of "thinking outside of the box", and enthusiastically participate in the many contraversial, yet interest provoking topics. Mrs Jameela is still heading the IB Diploma CAS programme and has successfully completed another year of CAS activities which are in-line with the IB’s CAS outcomes requirements. Again a successful Biology/Environmental Systems trip to Cyprus had been undertaken by our Grade 11 students. A record of 32 students participated in this worthy programme which promotes academic understanding of the subject, while offering a multi-cultural, international approach to our learning.
