University of Cambridge Public Engagement: to CCVS Members About us The University of Cambridge Public Engagement team co-ordinates major public events and builds partnerships between the University and the wider community. Our team works closely with many voluntary organisations and statutory bodies, and we provide a central information point for members of the public. Social innovation There are a number of student societies that take in ‘challenges’ from local voluntary organisations and aim to solve these in innovative ways. Research workshops There may be opportunities for one-day collaborative workshops between local organisations and Cambridge University academics, on subjects related to the social sciences. Examples of topics that fall into this category are: sustainability, health and wellbeing, politics and governance, and management. Responsible Research and Innovation We are conducting a survey about local organisations’ experience of collaborating with research organisations. We would be grateful if you could complete the questions below. Does your organisation collaborate with universities or other research organisations on research and innovation? If so, please provide brief details: Do you have ideas for collaborating with any groups of researchers and students in potential learning or research projects, and if so, in which topic areas? We are interested in these questions as part of a European project into Responsible research and innovation (RRI). This term is used in European funding to describe the way that different groups (researchers, citizens, policy makers, business, third sector organisations) can work together during the whole research and innovation process to better align research with the values, needs and expectations of society. http://ec.europa.eu/programmes/horizon2020/en/h2020section/responsible-research-innovation Some of the key aspects to consider in RRI have been identified as: public engagement, open access, science education and outreach, gender and equality, ethics, governance, social justice and sustainability. Competencies for researchers and anyone involved in RRI have been outlined as including: anticipation, reflexivity, inclusion and responsiveness.
