PROJECT 1: How did medieval monarchs keep control of their subjects?
Example questions: How did William of Normandy grasp control of England? How did William the
Conqueror secure control of England? Church OR State: Who was really in control? What happened
when monarchs lost control? Could women rule? Who were the most successful rulers of Britain of the
Middle Ages?
PROJECT 2: The Feudal System…explain the intricacies of this system.
PROJECT 3: Castles. Describe and explain them inside and out. Then tell us strategies for defending a
castle. Describe methods of attacking castles, as well.
PROJECT 4: It’s a gory subject- Describe punishments of the middle ages and match crimes to their
punishments.
PROJECT 5: Describe how medieval people grew their food, made their ale, and what they ate on a daily
basis. What did they eat on special occasions? What did their children eat? Maybe even make some
Rose Petal Bread.
PROJECT 6: Describe the secret life of pagans that lived during the Middle Ages.
PROJECT 7: Describe what woman of the Middle Ages wore and how the dressed. Make sure you cover
ALL woman of the feudal system. Who made their clothes? What was the typical dress of a Lady of the
Court? Did they wear makeup? How was makeup made? How did they buy it?
PROJECT 8: Describe games and activities played during the Middle Ages. Put together a game to be
played by everyone in the classroom that would have been enjoyed by Middle Age folk.
PROJECT 9: Describe popular names of the Middle Ages. How were people named? Tell us about the
history of names and trace names of the Middle Ages to the names of people today.
PROJECT 10: Describe the most charismatic people of the Middle Ages in Britain. These can be
entertainers, musicians, artists, courtesans, etc… What were their talents?
PROJECT 11: What was the technology of the day? What were their medical advances? Who tended to
people when they were ill? Describe the use of the church as hospitals. What was the church’s role in
medical treatments? Who could receive medical treatment?
PROJECT 12: Medieval superstitions and practices. What did medieval people believe about ghosts, evil
spirits, God? What were some of their practices regarding superstitions about childbirth, marriage,
sickness?
