CMS Lesson Plan Template Teacher: Jolly-Smith Course/Level: 7th Grade Life Science Week of: 3/16-20/15 Focused Standard/Element(s) Monday 3/16/15 Standard S7L3 Students will recognize how biological traits are passed on to successive generations. Element S7L3.a Explain the role of genes and chromosomes in the process of inheriting a specific trait. Element S7L3.c Recognize that selective breeding can produce plants or animals with desired traits Tuesday 3/17/15 Standard S7L3 Students will recognize how biological traits are passed on to successive generations. Element S7L3.a Explain the role of genes and chromosomes in the process of inheriting a specific trait. Element S7L3.c Recognize that selective breeding can produce plants or animals with desired traits Wednesday 3/18/15 Standard S7L3 Students will recognize how biological traits are passed on to successive generations. Element S7L3.a Explain the role of genes and chromosomes in the process of inheriting a specific trait. Element S7L3.c Recognize that selective breeding can produce plants or animals with desired traits Who was Gregor Mendel? Who was Gregor Mendel? Who was Gregor Mendel? Students will begin research on Gregor Mendel, the father of genetics. Students will begin a revised version of paper Students will begin presentations of papers Essential Question(s) Opening (5-10 min) Work-Time Activities (40 min) Students will use technology for research on Gregor Mendel. Students will take notes from their chosen resources. A rough draft is due at the end of the period. Continue working on paper Continue presentations of research papers Ticket out the door: Rough Draft Final Draft of research papers due Continuation of papers Paired groups, peer tutors, and individualized instructions when needed. How are dominant or recessive genes expressed? Gregor Mendel discovered that parent's traits do not blend in their offspring. Traits are determined by individual, separate alleles inherited from each parent. Some alleles are recessive, and some are dominant. Often the recessive trait is hidden by a dominant trail. One that always shows if present.
