Transport for Cape Town, the City’s transport authority, once again urges commuters to
make alternative transport arrangements where possible for tomorrow, 5 February 2015, as
we are expecting service delays on the following routes:
 A01 (Airport, Civic Centre)
 T01 (Dunoon, Table View, Civic Centre, Waterfront)
 101 (Vredehoek, Gardens, Civic Centre)
 102 (Salt River Rail, Walmer Estate, Civic Centre)
 103 (Oranjezicht, Gardens, Civic Centre)
 105 (Sea Point, Fresnaye, Civic Centre)
 107 (Civic Centre, Camps Bay, anti-clockwise)
 108 (Hangberg, Sea Point, Adderley)
 108a (Civic Centre, Queens Beach)
 109 (Hout Bay, Imizamo Yethu, Sea Point, Adderley)
 110 (Table Mountain)
On Monday 2 February 2015, the South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (SATAWU)
served Transpeninsula Investments (TPI) with a strike notification letter informing the VOC of
the imminent strike by their members (the bus drivers who are employed by TPI) on
Wednesday 4 February 2015, from 14:00 onwards.
TCT is monitoring the ongoing negotiations between TPI and SATAWU, with the dispute
revolving around organisational rights and the interpretation of certain clauses in the
recognition agreement between the two parties. The matter was referred to the Commission
for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) for resolution in October last year, but
remained unresolved.
At this stage it is unclear how long the strike will last.
Contingency plans are in place to limit the effects of the strike as far as possible and TCT has
requested that the other two VOCs – TBRT and Kidrogen – assist with the services on these
routes.
Thanks to the assistance of the drivers from the other two VOCs, we have been able to limit
the impact of the strike thus far.
All the trips on the T01 trunk route between the Civic Centre, Table View and Dunoon, as well
as the trips between the Civic Centre station and the Cape Town International Airport, have
been covered. That said, the feeder routes have a limited service at the moment, but more
buses will be added within the next hour as more drivers arrive for duty.
However, commuters should still expect delays on the abovementioned routes for the
duration of the strike.
