THE BRITISH INSTITUTE OF RADIOLOGY (BIR)
LAUNCHES NEW OPEN ACCESS JOURNAL
On 21 August 2014, the BIR announced the launch of BJR|case reports, an international open access case report journal of radiology, radiation oncology and all related sciences. The journal will use a continuous publication model and will be published online only on the BIR Publications website, birpublications.org. Articles will undergo the same rigorous peer review and uphold the same highquality publication standards as BJR, the BIR’s flagship journal. This important new journal will provide clinicians and researchers with unrestricted access to interesting cases and reports with educational value. Professor Giuseppe Guglielmi of the University of Foggia and the Hospital San
Giovanni Rotondo, Italy, will be the Editor-in-Chief of the journal.
Professor Guglielmi says about the new journal, “BJR|case reports is an exciting new opportunity for the radiology community and I am delighted to be involved, as Editor-in-Chief, in its launch and development. I have a long association with the BIR as an Associate Editor of BJR and I know that this new journal will have the high quality and rigour you would expect from this radiology-specialist publisher. I am looking forward to working with the editorial board and the BIR to produce a valuable new journal for the community.”
Sophia Anderton, Head of Publishing at the BIR, remarked, “This is the first new journal launch for the BIR in 25 years and we are excited about the prospect of creating a dedicated home for radiological case reports. We are passionate about supporting young researchers for whom case reports are often their first venture into publishing and anticipate that BJR|case reports will become
a valuable educational resource for the radiology community.”
The BIR is committed to the dissemination and re-use of research outputs and as part of the
BIR|Open initiative, the articles will be open access, published under a Creative Commons
Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0) allowing unrestricted access as well as commercial or non-commercial reuse of content, with proper attribution.
As an introductory offer, the BIR will waive all Article Publication Charges for a limited time. Anyone who wants to get involved or be considered as a reviewer is requested to contact the editorial office at publications@bir.org.uk
