Minutes from the July 17, 2014 Meeting
Attendees:
CAC Members: Les Purcell, Sandy Reifsynder, Steve Lind, Audrey Wahl, Jack Ferry, Wayne Littleton

Call to Order:
Les Purcell called the meeting to order at 4:00 PM. Minutes of the June 19, 2014 meeting were reviewed. Jack F.
moved to accept the minutes. The motion was seconded by Sandy R. The minutes were accepted.
Meeting:

Les announced that Sandy’s term was completed and she will be leaving the Clubs Advisory Committee (CAC)
at the end of August. He has received and reviewed an application by Donna Hickey..

Board Liaison Tom Terryand Food & Beverage Service Manager Dave McLaughlin helped to address some
Yacht Club issues, questions and rumors that have been circulated throughout the community:

Are there plans for the Java Bay Café to be
resurrected in the space which was thought
to be designated as the Marina Office?
No. Although that space is
currently being used to sell coffee
and Ocean Pines memorabilia, it is
not planned to be another Java
Bay Café.
(2)
Are there still electrical power problems in
the YC building on the Mumford Landing
side of the building,
Yes. The problems are being
addressed and directed to the
electrical contractor who did the
work.
(3)
There are no booster seats available to
families with children.
There are a few booster seats
currently available. More will be
purchased,
COMMENTS
The problem results in
fewer heating lamps
available to assure
fresh, hot food being
served

Are reservations allowed?
Yes and No.
Yes- Reservations are accepted
during the week and for Sunday
Brunch.
No-Reservations are not accepted
on Friday, Saturday and Sunday
for general food service. This
policy has been established in an
effort to pace Kitchen and food
servers.

There is not enough advertisement for the
Cove.
An effort has been made to add
more print and radio
advertisement.
(6)
There has been a problem with computer
glitches.
Yes-Computers have shut down at
pools and bars on various
occasions. Computer interruptions
are being addressed as needed.
(7)
Some bar tabs have been unpaid due to
over crowded bar conditions.
Nadine and Bar Tenders will
oversee this issue. Nadine’s duties
include:

Oversight of Bar Service
2.
Hands-on Catering Manager)
3.
Assistant Manager on Duty
(MOD)
Brian Townsend is
Catering Sales Manager.
His duties are solely to
schedule catered events.
CAC Suggestion: Require
a credit card (or some
other means of ID eg: OP
membership card) to
start a Bar Tab.

Dave Mc Laughlin presented some Yacht Club Up-dates:

All plantings required by Worcester County (WC) to complete the YC Certificate of Occupancy (CO) are in
place.

Once the CO has been received, Ocean Pines General Manager (GM) Bob Thompson and Ocean Pines Board
President Tom Terry plan to meet with WC to discuss future plans.

New menu items are being added to the current menu.

The Fire Department imposed Fire Safety Standards to the first floor bar design to assure safe entry and exit
from the space. This necessitated restructuring the original Bar Design. The resulting effort has negatively
affected Bar Service in 1st floor Bar area.

An outside Bar-b-Que will be available on the Patio Fridays and Saturdays throughout the Summer.

Bar food will now be offered to patrons in addition to the Full Menu at both the Tiki Bar and the inside Bar.

The price of canned beer will be reduced to $2.50 at the Tiki Bar since Tap Beer is not available there. (The
cost of retro-fitting 8 Taps in the Tiki Bar area is $15,000.)

Control and management of the invasion of the many flies being experienced in the food areas is still in
process.

GM Bob Thompson was a late arrival to the meeting. He said that the results of the annual report for Fiscal
Year 2014 (June 1, 2013 to May 30, 2014) showed low numbers for the YC due to the expenses required for
training purposes.

The meeting was adjourned @ 4:15.
6.
There will be no CAC meeting in August.
7.
The next meeting of the Clubs Advisory Committee will be Thursday, September18th @ 4 PM at the Yacht
Club
