Youth & Children’s Team Leader – Additional Responsibilities Title: Youth & Children’s Team Leader Reporting to: The Incumbent Hours Worked: 35 per week minimum Overall Purpose The overall aim of the post is to lead, develop and implement ministry work amongst young adults, youth, children and families in St Stephen’s Church and in the local community, in accordance with the vision of the church, which is for us to be powered by the presence of God and shaped for the purposes of God – worship, ministry, evangelism, fellowship and discipleship. Additional Main Duties To co-ordinate, develop, and oversee leadership of ministry for young adults, youth, children and families, both within St. Stephen’s Church and outside of the church setting. This involves helping this generation to be shaped by God and empowered by the Holy Spirit, so that they may mature into full active adult members of the church and wider mission of Jesus. This also includes allowing children and young people to feel welcomed, valued, comfortable, engaged and free to explore faith in a loving environment marked with kingdom values. To effectively communicate the vision and strategy for our young adults, youth, children and families ministry and be an advocate for this work, along with the church leadership, as we lead St. Stephen’s church forward. This involves being part of the Leadership Support Team. To line manage the Children’s & Families Worker/ Youth & Young Adults Worker, Senior Intern, Gap year workers, Youth & Children’s Administrator and Youth & Children’s core team, growing them in their capabilities and releasing their potential for this area of ministry. To liaise with parents, enabling them to take responsibility for the spiritual development of their children and young people. To recruit, co-ordinate, motivate and support a team of volunteers in providing youth and children’s work within St. Stephen’s Church, providing them with opportunities for appropriate training. To look for, train, mentor and release young people into leadership within children’s work, youth work and the wider church. To propose a budget for children’s and youth ministry ensuring that it is vision-led and effectively managed. This will include actively seeking suitable grant funding. To strengthen and build relationships in the local community by overseeing the co-ordinating and developing of activities, pastoral care and evangelism amongst young people within the community. In conjunction with the Parish Child Protection Officer, to ensure that the Diocesan child protection policy is implemented and adhered to within all youth and children’s work at St. Stephen’s Church. To ensure all safeguarding, health and safety and other duties of care are met; including completion of risk assessments and administrating first aid where necessary. To represent the needs of the children and young people to the PCC. To promote youth and children’s work within St. Stephen’s Church and the local community. To liaise and network with the Diocese of Rochester, local organisations, statutory bodies and other churches in matters relating to youth and children’s work and intentionally work alongside other Christians within the town and surrounding area in joint areas of youth and children’s work and in areas of mutual interest. In addition To take regular retreat days at least termly in order to reflect, recharge and spend time with God. To fulfil any other responsibilities appropriate to the role of Youth & Children’s Team Leader as agreed with the vicar and/or line manager. A person who seeks accountability and is able to be led. A robust thinker around biblical and cultural matters. Additional Qualifications and Experience: This position also requires significant experience in leading other leaders and strategic thinking. The individual must have a proven track record of effective leadership, good judgment, and irreproachable character. Formal training and qualification in youth or children’s work or equivalent experience is essential. Experience of leading and managing a team of volunteers and paid staff. Experience of planning and implementing a balanced programme of activities and teaching Excellent communication and teaching skills with both young people and adults. Salary range £26,500 – £28,500 pro rata, based on experience, qualifications and ability All other terms and conditions as for Youth & Young Adults Worker and Children and Families Worker.
