Classroom Rules and Grading Policy for Mr. Hyman’s Classes In order to ensure a successful year, every student must follow the policies stated. Lateness You are expected to arrive to class on time and prepared to work when the bell rings. The lateness policy that is stated in the student handbook will be followed. Classroom behavior Each student is to respect the needs of the others in the class. Disruptive behavior such as talking to those around you during the lesson or shouting across the room will not be tolerated. Foul language or inappropriate references are not allowed. Restroom/Nurse Pass If you need to visit the restroom you do not need to ask my permission to leave. What you will need to do is quietly sign yourself out and quietly sign back in when you return. Cell Phones As stated in the student handbook, unapproved cell phone use is prohibited. If you are observed using your cell phone inappropriately in class you will relinquish your phone for to me for the remainder of the period. Your parent(s) will be contacted informing them of the inappropriate behavior. If the behavior is observed again, the student will have to relinquish his/her phone at the start of class every day until the end of the marking period. Homework Homework will be assigned every day. Each assignment is corrected in class the following day. Assignments will be randomly collected. At the end of each marking period the entire set of homework assignments will be collected and graded. ASSESMENTS All assessments will be announced 2-4 days in advance. They will cover all of the material in the unit as well as any other review topics. Calculators All students are to bring their calculator to class on a daily basis. I will not lend you a calculator for class work or during a test. If you forget to bring your calculator I suggest ask to borrow one from another student. Remind APP Every student is expected to sign in to the REMIND application/web site so that I can efficiently get alerts/reminders out to you as needed. You can register by following the directions supplied on my web page under the REMIND icon. Your first homework assignment is to successfully register by Friday 7:00 AM. It will count as a 5 point assignment. To best use the remind feature, please download the Remind app as well. Mornings Afternoons Lunch Extra Help : Room A229 Monday – Thursday: 7:15 AM – 7:45 AM Tuesday – Friday: 2:45 PM – 3:15 PM Math Lab “C” Days Absence Policy as Stated in the Student Handbook Students who have been absent for one or two days are expected to make up work/tests within two class days of returning to school. If the absence is three days or longer, the missed work must be made up within five class days after the student returns to school unless previous arrangements have been made with the teacher due to extenuating circumstances. Missing assignments will be posted as a zero (0) until the work has been submitted or until the timeframe for completing the work has expired. If work is not made up within the designated time frame, a grade of zero (0) will be maintained. (For just cause, a teacher/administrator may extend the time frame for completion of missing assignments.) To clarify: a. If you are present in class when homework was assigned and absent the following day, it is your responsibility to either check with me or someone in your class to see if the homework assignment was collected or not. If it was collected, it must be handed in to me the day that you return to class. I will not ask/remind you to hand in the assignment. You must be proactive and give me the assignment. b. If you were absent when homework was assigned, and present the following day, it is your responsibility to check my web page to determine what the assignment was that you missed. You have two days from when you return to class to hand in the completed assignment. You must be proactive and give me the assignment before the two days are up. No exceptions! c. If you were absent the day of a test, the expectation is that you take the test either before school or after school on the day you return to school. I will be in contact with you via school email and/or Remind when this occurs so please check your email when you are absent. d. If you are absent in the day(s) leading up to a test please make arrangements to meet with me to get you caught up on material you missed and to set up a make-up test date if need be.
