The job
ASQA is looking for people who have initiative, a commitment to excellence, strong analytical and
problem solving capabilities, an ability to think conceptually as well as creatively, the capacity to
communicate effectively with stakeholders, and to work within a team environment. The position will
be located in the Brisbane office, however there may be a requirement to undertake regular travel.
Purpose of the job
The Regulatory Data Analyst will identify, from the analysis of a wide range of data sources, the key
trends, risks and issues relevant to the quality of the vocational education and training sector in
Australia.
The Regulatory Data Analyst will prepare information, reports, presentations and issues papers in
regard to areas of risk exposure relevant to the both sector and the operations of ASQA.
The position to be filled is at the APS 6 level and there are a range of tasks and duties for the
position including, but not exclusive to, the following:










Leading and/or participating in projects involving identification and management of risks in
the vocational education system associated with the operation of registered training
organisations, nationally recognised training products and ASQA.
Collating and analysing data to identify trends, risks and significant issues with the potential
to impact upon the sector and ASQA, and making recommendations based on professional
judgements of valid data from reliable data sources.
Consulting with ASQA Industry Engagement Officers to ensure that strategic risks identified
by content experts, industry bodies and government agencies are integrated into relevant
ASQA risk analyses.
Maintaining operational systems, processes and tools to administer ASQA’s risk
management strategies.
Interpreting and applying legislation, policy guidelines and procedural requirements as they
apply to risk analysis activities and projects.
Supporting ASQA functions to assess risks pertaining to registered training organisations,
as and when relevant or necessary.
Working collaboratively with external data agencies to avoid duplication of effort and
achieving shared goals.
Preparing reports and recommendations for internal and external publication.
Preparing correspondence, issues papers, presentations and briefings as required by
Commissioners and ASQA senior officers.
Contributing to the effectiveness and consistency of data analysis activities through active
participation in professional development activities.

Monitoring and reviewing internal quality processes related to the data analysis functions of
the regulator to identify and implement business improvement activities.
Maintaining accurate and comprehensive records of data analysis activities, in accordance
with ASQA policies and procedures.

Selection criteria
Required
1. High level knowledge of legislation, standards, products, policies and guidelines relating to
service delivery within the National Skills Framework, particularly relating to risk
management in a VET context.
2. High level skills of critical analysis, problem solving and professional judgement as
demonstrated in a data analysis and/or applied research role.
3. High level knowledge of risk management concepts, principles and processes relevant to
the VET sector and ASQA.
4. Demonstrated ability to communicate complex information in professional reports and
briefings that clearly and concisely communicate the key information and issues to a range
of audiences.
5. Capacity to contribute effectively, both individually and as a member of a team, in
responding to conflicting priorities and meeting multiple deadlines in a high volume work
environment.
Qualifications
Possession of the following qualification is desirable:

TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or equivalent competencies)
