COMMUNITY HEALTH Nurses providing services in homes, ambulatory care settings, schools, occupational health settings, residential institutions, and the community at large. PUBLIC HEALTH Nurses who work with individuals, groups, families and populations in clinical or non-clinical settings to improve the overall health of communities. May be involved in planning and implementing public health programs; advising communities; and arranging for immunizations, health screening, or helping to contain the spread of disease in communities. EDUCATION Faculty in colleges, universities, schools, hospital-based schools of nursing, technical schools, or staff development educators in health care facilities and teacher-practitioners. NEONATAL Neonatal nurses (RNs) and neonatal nurse practitioners (NNPs) may work in clinics, community-based settings, hospitals or neonatal intensive care units. NURSE RESEARCHER Nurses who conduct research, analyze data, solve clinical problems, write grants, and share their findings with the larger healthcare community (e.g. peer-reviewed articles, posters and presentations). ADMINISTRATION Consultants, CNE’s, CNO’s, VP’s, Administrative Directors, and Department Directors/Managers. Performance Improvement, Quality Management, Risk Management, Informatics, Patient Safety, in the Community and/or Hospital. Includes nurses in general medical/surgical or specialty unit area of nursing who function in the Charge Nurse role. PEDIATRIC Nursery, general pediatric units, pediatric clinics, pediatric ICU, surgical, and NICU with intermediate care units. FAMILY MEDICINE Providing primary care services to families and patients of various ages, may be a registered nurse(RN) or family practice nurse practitioner (FNP). WOMEN'S HEALTH Nurses specializing in issues pertaining to women’s health including Obstetrics, and Gynecology, or providing services pertinent to women’s health such as well-woman visits, prenatal or postpartum care, and acute or chronic gender-related disease management. STUDENT NURSE A student who demonstrates academic excellence, is involved in student/professional nurse organizations, shows a commitment to giving back to the program at their school of nursing and the greater nursing profession. May include undergraduate or graduate level students. MATERNAL NEWBORN Demonstrates outstanding service to child-bearing families, including direct patient care of mothers and neonates; education; administration; or research of issues related to the postpartum/neonatal period. LABOR & DELIVERY Provides outstanding care to patients in labor who have uncomplicated or complicated deliveries, this includes high risk obstetrics and OR (Scrub/Circulating) nurses. ANTEPARTUM Provides outstanding care to patients who have complications of pregnancy requiring hospitalization prior to delivery.
