Fairhope Middle School Peer Helper Program Scrapbook for 2012-2014 6th Grade Transition Assembly and Tour on April 2, 2014 8th Grade Peer Helpers for 2013-2014 Over 350 6th grade students from FIS and J. Larry Newton attended the Transition Assembly and Tour. The FMS Peer Helper video was shown and Peer Helpers conducted tours for the upcoming 7th graders. 8th Grade Peer Helpers for 2013-2014: Braden Manuel, Gibbs Sherrell, Jordan McCollum, Henry Lueke, Jonah Medeiros, Arthur Howard, Mackenzie Early, Savannah Ryan, Maddie Teufel, Taylor Roberts, Lindsay Keating, Katelyn Finch, Anna Claire Noblitt, Mary Harris, Caroline Gamard, Cairo Plauche`,and Angel Allen Choose Kindness Week, February 3-7, 2014 Registration August 2013 The FMS Peer Helper Program sponsored a school wide Choose Kindness Week in an effort to promote kindness and encourage students to pass it on! Special morning announcements, homeroom activities about choosing kindness, signing of the choose kindness banner, a random act of kindness for 8th Grade Peer Helpers helped with both 7th and 8th grade registrations on August 14-15, 2013. They conducted tours for students and parents and helped distribute registration information. FMS parents, as well as a flash mob performance of the song, "One Day", were the New Student Donut Breakfast 2013 Peer Helper Anti-Bullying Assembly for 7th Grade Over 50 new students (not from FIS or Newton School) attended the New Student Breakfast sponsored by the Peer Helper Program on August 28, 2013. On September 3, 2013, FMS Peer Helpers conducted an Anti-Bullying Assembly for the 7th Grade. The DVD, "Invisible Weapons" was shown with Peer Helpers pointing out what to do if you are being bullied. Mrs. Doyle and Mrs. Bowling addressed the BCBOE Anti-Harassment Policy, the FMS Report a Bully Service, and how to handle gossip in middle school. The assembly concluded with the 7th grade students signing the FMS Anti-Bullying Contract. Middle School Peer Helper Training 2013 8th Grade FMS Peer Helper, Cairo Plauche', Interviewed on Local NBC 15 2013 Middle School Peer Helper Training at Trojan Hall with DMS, SPFMS, and BMMS on September 12, 2013. Fairhope Middle School Peer Helpers joined Daphne Middle School, Spanish Fort Middle School, and Bay Minette Middle School for a day of training at Trojan Hall in Daphne on September 12th. Julie Champion, Baldwin County's Peer Helper Trainer, and her Peer Helpers from Foley High School led the training which focused on anti-bullying, skills needed to be an effective Peer Helper, and team building activities. Peer Helpers at the other middle schools in Baldwin County including Foley Middle, Gulf Shores Middle, Summerdale School, Elberta Middle School, and Central Baldwin Middle School were trained on the same day in Orange Beach by Amy McKenzie, GSHS Peer Helper Coordinator, and her GSHS Peer Helpers. Over 200 middle school Peer Helpers were able to participate in this one day training event sponsored by the Jennifer Claire Moore Foundation. Larry Newton Peer Helpers at Delta Five Rivers on October 10, 2013. They were asked to help by Counselors, Ms. McCarthy and Ms. Cleveland. Peer Helper Anti-Bullying Skits FMS Peer Helpers presented an Anti-Bullying skit to 7th grade homerooms during Bullying Prevention Education Week, November 18-22, 2013 FMS and FHS Peer Helper Pizza Luncheon- Red Ribbon Week 2013 Peer Helper Christmas Game Day During Breaks 2013 During Red Ribbon Week on Monday, October 21, 2013, the FHS Peer Helpers visited the 8th grade World History classes to discuss the transition to high school and peer pressure/drug prevention strategies. They were invited to a pizza luncheon with our FMS Peer Helpers. New students and anyone interested in having fun and meeting new friends were invited to the Peer Helper sponsored Game Day during 7th and 8th grade breaks in the library. Students played board games, Wii, and some won door prizes during this event on December 11, 2013. Project Wisdom Morning Announcements by Peer Helpers Peer Helpers Welcome New Students Peer Helpers are assigned to read Project Wisdom announcements each day. Project Wisdom is a character education program that emphasizes a thought for the day which always ends with "Make it a great day or not, the choice is yours." Pictured is 7th grade Peer Helper, Cole Leonard. An important part of the Peer Helper Program is the support Peer Helpers give to new students. When a new student enrolls, every effort is made to place the new student in at least one class with a Peer Helper. The Peer Helpers tour the new students and introduce them to other students, including them at break and other times. Making new students feel welcomed and accepted is key to the success of the Peer Helper Program. Peer Helper Tutoring Program 2013/2014 FMS Peer Helpers for 2012-2013 8th grade Peer Helpers who volunteer provide math tutoring to selected 7th graders during homeroom. The training was conducted by Mrs. Julie Champion, Baldwin County Peer Helper Coordinator. FMS Peer Helpers hosted a pizza luncheon for FHS Peer Helpers during Red Ribbon Week 2012. JCM Annual Peer Helper Coordinator's Dinner 2013 Peer Helpers Participate in the 2013 Lighthouse "Eggstravaganza" At the Jennifer Claire Moore Foundation’s annual Peer Helper Coordinator Dinner, four of Fairhope Middle School’s Peer Helpers presented an overview of the Fairhope Middle School’s Peer Helper Program. Information included anti-bullying efforts, participation in a fundraiser for the Lighthouse Easter Egg Hunt and the Red Ribbon Pennies for Puppies Campaign, mentoring new students, and the Project Wisdom character education program. In attendance at the event were Frances HolkJones and the Board of the Jennifer Claire Moore Foundation, Principals and Baldwin County Peer Helper Coordinators, as well as Dr. Alan Lee, Baldwin County’s Superintendent. These candy filled eggs were donated to the Lighthouse domestic violence shelter for their annual "Eggstravaganza", an Easter egg hunt for children who reside at the shelter with their families. FMS Receives NAPPP CertificationNovember 2012 The Fairhope Middle School Peer Helper Program was certified by the National Association of Peer Program Professionals in November of 2012.
