EU-FUNDED EXECUTIVE TRAINING IN JAPAN AND KOREA Cycle 2013 open for applications following successful selection of candidates for cycle 2012 Brussels, September 2012: Following the successful selection of candidates for the 2012 cycle of Executive Training Programme (ETP) which will start this November, applications are now open for the 2013 cycle of this prestigious business support and executive training programme. Given the currently pursued ambitious EU trade strategy with Korea and Japan, European businesses should seriously consider the enormous export potential of these markets. The Executive Training Programme supports European companies in developing their business plans and resources in the Japanese or Korean markets for just this purpose. The ETP enables EU companies and their executives to develop their business plan and build knowledge of Japanese / Korean business practices, culture and language, as well as their networks in order to succeed in these Asian markets while bearing minimum costs. To do so, the EU funds the entire training course and provides a scholarship for each participant of €26,400 a year for Japan and €24,000 for Korea. Sponsoring companies are encouraged to contribute to the living expenses of their ETP participants. To date ETP has helped more than 1000 executives and 800 companies to succeed in Japan and Korea by overcoming language and cultural barriers in these countries. A survey of ETP participants showed that more than 65% of ETP alumni become top executives within their companies, and that the participant companies’ related turnover with Japan or Korea increases two fold within ten years of completing the ETP. In concrete terms, ETP provides opportunities for EU companies to expand their business in Asia and supports the creation of jobs. The ETP is open to EU nationals working for European companies interested in launching or expanding their activities in Japan or Korea. It is divided into 3 stages: A 3-week introductory training on the Japanese or Korean economy, culture and modern society in London; A 30-week intensive business, management and language training in Tokyo or Seoul; A 12-week internship in a Japanese or Korean company. ETP training courses are provided by three internationally recognized universities: School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London; Waseda University (Tokyo); Yonsei University (Seoul). EU executives can apply by submitting an online application via http://www.euetp.eu. The deadline for applications is 31st May 2013. The training cycle will run from November 2013 to November 2014. There are 45 places available for ETP Japan and 15 for ETP Korea. Note to Editors: About The Executive Training Programme: ETP is a business and human resources development programme financed by the European Union. ETP enables EU companies and their executives to develop their business plan and build knowledge of Japanese/Korean business practices, culture and language to succeed in these markets. The way business is done in Japan and Korea is so vastly different to how it is done in Europe that EU companies and executives doing business there need to be provided with specialist skills and insights to succeed. Growing the number of EU companies operating in Japan and Korea is a key strategic imperative for the European Commission. http://www.euetp.eu.
