Job Description
SUMMARY
Assists the Head of School in all administrative matters that may arise in the operations of the school. Acts as
the senior administrative official in the Head’s absence. Ensures that a rigorous and un-corrupted Montessori
curriculum is implemented in all classrooms. Supports teachers in carrying out the school mission. Oversees
the development of the whole child. Ensures children are well prepared to continue to the top ongoing
schools. Assists in admissions and exmissions and the enrollment process. Educates parents in the Montessori
curriculum and ensures their needs are met and their concerns are addressed.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Arrive on time in appropriate attire at the beginning of the school day
Assist the Head of School with the day-to-day operations as delegated and instructed concerning the
following duties and responsibilities:

Schedule parent/teacher conferences when necessary
Actively observe all programs in the center
Be knowledgeable of playground safety
Plan or delegate the planning of field trips and special programs at the center
Make staff aware of new enrollments
Supervise all teachers to ensure proper implementation of the Montessori Curriculum
Support and advise teachers when educational issues may arise
Implement policies and procedures, in cooperation with the Head of School, to ensure the highest
educational standards are met
Organize extra-curricular programs
Help plan and Lead in Weekly Faculty Meetings
Oversee and implement Montessori Curriculum professional development for the teaching staff
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES









Be familiar with and stay current on state child care regulations, local and federal regulatory agencies,
school policies and procedures, and maintain compliance with all
Keep records that pertain to the administration of the center in accordance with applicable federal, state
and local laws
Be familiar with the procedure for reporting suspected child abuse
Be the first to address all parental concerns. Inform Head of School of all concerns and the action taken
Keep an up-to-date file on each staff member
Arrange for substitute staff as needed
Schedule staff work shifts to maintain compliance with staff-to-child ratios
Immediately inform Head of School of any complaints involving illegal harassment or discrimination
Support Head of School in investigating any complaints of illegal harassment or discrimination and in

determination with the Head take any and all prompt remedial action necessary to maintain a work
environment free of discrimination and harassment
Answer phones and check voicemail
Be available to discuss any concerns or issues that may arise from, or between staff members; inform
Head of School of all concerns and action taken
Keep records of training hours completed as required by your state on each staff member
Use the Enrollment Inquiry Information form when taking calls or giving tours
Be aware of enrollment needs and keep Head of School informed
Familiarize the parents of newly enrolled children with the Parent Handbook and policies and procedures
Maintain waiting lists
Ensure all necessary documentation is in each student’s file
Attend to sick or injured children without delay. Fill Incident/Accident forms and contact parents when
needed. Contact proper officials in case of a serious injury. Contact the center's Insurance Agent if
professional medical attention is required
Administer medication to children according to policies and procedure and all state regulations
Be familiar with the location and schedules of local schools
Act as liaison with local schools
Know the procedure for releasing children from your care
Know the procedures for fire and weather related emergencies. Conduct and document practice drills as
required by the local regulatory agency
Keep Head of School informed of any repairs or replacements needed for equipment, building, or grounds
Supervise the daily maintenance of classrooms, playground, kitchen, and reception area
Handle all ordering, purchasing and inventory of consumable goods including class, office, and janitorial
supplies as directed by the Franchisee
Keep Head of School informed of center and staff supply or equipment needs as they arise
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
 Frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and to
stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
 Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
 Must be able to carry children to safety
 Specific vision requirements include the ability to see at close and distant range
 At times, may require more than 40 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position.
 Fine motor manipulation
 Transportation time spent commuting between sites for meetings and trainings
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS






Montessori Certification
A baccalaureate degree in Early Childhood Education or related field of study, with Masters degree
preferred
At least two years experience as a teacher of children under 6 years of age
A New York State Education Department teacher certificate in Early Childhood Education or Certification
from a public or private certifying or teacher accrediting organization or agency granted reciprocity by the
New York State Department of Education
Managerial experience
Demonstrate the following qualities: self-motivation, self-direction, ability to make good judgments,
creativity, reliability, and dependability

Provide all medical records, abuse clearance, criminal records check, fingerprint clearance, training
certificates, and any other forms or information required by the child care regulatory agency
Demonstrate the ability to handle crisis situations, especially where children are involved and to respond
immediately to any emergency situation
Be willing to participate in continuing education as required by the child care regulatory agency
Maintain certification in CPR and First Aid Training
Be prepared to give input and assist in the hiring and firing of personnel. Input will have great weight on
personnel decisions
