REGISTRATION INFORMATION
In order to ensure a more efficient application process, the After School Committee, along with Principal Galland
and the PTA Co-Presidents, have decided to conduct a registration night on, Wednesday, January 13, 2016 from
7:30-9 pm in the Davis School Cafeteria. Parents will attend, with a completed application (for each child & each
class) and cash or check made payable to Davis PTA. Students may be registered by a designated adult other than
the parents if a parent is unable to attend. However, that designated adult may only register the children of one
family. Your child's application will be reviewed in your presence to check for completion and accuracy.
Applications and checks must be received on the evening of Wednesday, January 13, 2016. No exceptions
will be made for late applications except for classes which do not meet capacity in which case applications
may be accepted through Friday, January, 15, 2016. Communication will be go out if space is available and if
additional applications will be accepted after registration night. Please fill out the attached application and bus
form completely and carefully. An application must be filled out for each child AND each class. Forms with
missing information will not be processed and will be returned to you. Applications must be accompanied
with full payment of all course fees and received by the above deadline to be considered.
All classes will be filled on a first come basis. If any classes are not filled on the original registration night, a second
registration may be scheduled.
The Spring session will begin on Tuesday, March 1, 2016. A l l classes for the Spring session will run for 10 weeks
unless otherwise indicated on the calendar. Please refer to the calendar on the last page of the program to
determine the precise schedule for each class. Classes begin at 3:15pm and end at 4:30pm. Any class cancelled
due to foul weather, instructor absence, or any other emergency, will be rescheduled. All children will receive a
calendar on the first day of class. Please read the calendar carefully and note the class schedule.
The emergency contact information provided on the application must be different than the parents’
contact information provided.
A separate application is required for each child and each class registering for After School classes. In addition, a
separate check must be written for each class for which a child is registering. All checks must be made payable
to Davis PTA After School Program. All applications must be received at registration on Wednesday, January 13,
2016, at Davis School in the cafeteria. NO applications will be accepted at any other time. Again, please be aware
of the firm January 13 deadline. To ensure that 1) the committee meets all of its deadlines (e.g., late bus
scheduling, instructor confirmations, etc.) and 2) the program runs smoothly, it is essential that we receive your
applications and payments on January 13, 2016.
POLICY
THE DAVIS AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
This program provides opportunity for participation in a variety of activities in sports, crafts, and performing
arts. Instructors with educational experience are recruited from the Davis staff and local organizations. We
are welcoming back our Director, Vincent Caporaso. He has been a Special Ed teacher at Davis for many years
and has administrative experience. Mr. Caporaso will help ensure supervision and safety of your children at all
times. Vincent Caporaso can be reached at 914-576-4420 during program hours. Parents should be aware that
the After School Program takes place after school hours and that there is no nurse on school premises while the
After School Program is in session.
PROCEDURES
Upon dismissal from school at 3:15pm, all children in the After School Program must report to the Auditorium
where their activity instructors will meet them. The Director, Vincent Caporaso, will escort kindergartners, first
graders, and students in special education to the auditorium. Parents should remind their child when they have
an After School class scheduled for that day. If any parent has reservations about their child remembering to
attend the After School Program, they should send a note to their child’s homeroom teacher. All children will return
to the auditorium at 4:30. Parents may enter through the front entrance to pick up their child.
LATE BUS
Late bus service will be available at 4:30 for all children who normally take the bus. The After School Program is
organized by parent volunteers who have no connection to the transportation office or the bus company. The
After School Director, Vincent Caporaso, and your child’s instructor will be available to ensure that students get
on their buses safely. If you have a problem with the bus, please call the Transportation Office at 576-4230 or
First Bus Co. at 668-2700 or 668-2800. Please return the completed bus form WITH the After School Program
Application. PLEASE DO NOT SEND THE BUS APPLICATION TO CITY HALL.
PICK-UP AND LATE PICK-UP
Parents must enter the school through the entrance at the front of the school. All other doors will be locked. All
children will be dismissed from the auditorium at 4:30 (or walked to the Boys and Girls Club if enrolled on those
days). It is imperative that children be picked up in the auditorium, so that the Director can keep track of the
dismissal of all children. It is essential that the parents of children who do not ride the bus make arrangements
to have their children picked up by 4:30pm. Children who are consistently picked up late may be asked to
withdraw from the program and will not be granted a refund. To ensure the safety of our children, parents must
inform the Director, in writing, of any alternative arrangements that are made for pick-up on a particular day
(e.g. carpool changes and play dates). In case of an emergency, no child will be left unsupervised. However, a
$15 fee, payable to the Director, will be charged to parents who do not pick up their children by 4:45pm. In the
rare event of an emergency that requires a parent to pick up their child late, the parent must notify the Director
at 576-4420
WEATHER EMERGENCIES
The After School Program will follow the district lead when canceling classes due to inclement weather. Listen to
WVOX (1460 AM) for this information. In the event that a program must be cancelled due to weather or
emergency situations, parents will be notified by the robo call system. The After School Committee will no longer
make individual calls. Parents please be aware you will only receive the robo call. Children will be sent home by
their usual means of transportation at the time of the school's dismissal.
A NOTICE OF NON-DISCRIMINATORY POLICY AS TO STUDENTS:
The Davis After School Program admits students of any race, religion, color, national and ethnic origin or
handicapping condition to all rights, privileges and activities generally accorded and made available to students. It
does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national or ethnic origin or handicapping condition in
its administration of its educational policies, admission policies and other administrative programs.
WITHDRAWAL, ILLNESS AND REFUND POLICY
NO REFUNDS are made for voluntary withdrawal from the program. In case of a child’s absence, no make-up
sessions will be available. ABSOLUTELY NO SWITCHING OF CLASSES WILL BE PERMITTED AFTER THE PROGRAM
REGISTRATION PERIOD HAS ENDED ON January 13 at 9pm. At the discretion of the instructor, a parent may be
asked to withdraw a child from the program due to significant behavior problems.
APPLICATION
Use this form to enroll your child in the Davis After School Program. Please print clearly and fill out all requested information.

Bus transportation is available only to children receiving daily bus transportation to Davis. The bus will depart at 4:35 PM daily.

PARENT GUIDELINES AND INFORMATION
1. Absolutely no application received after the registration night on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 will be
accepted.
2. All applications must be completed and submitted on the designated registration night, Wednesday, January
13, 2016, from 7:30-9pm at Davis School.
3. Completed Late Bus Applications should be submitted with the After School Program Application on the
registration night. The applications will be available at registration. Please do not send the Bus Application
to City Hall.
4. NO refunds will be granted to students who withdraw from the program.
5. Students will not be permitted to switch classes after the After School Program registration evening has
ended on January 13, 2016.
6. It is the parents’ responsibility to carefully review the calendar for the After School class in which their child
is enrolled. The schedule for each class will be handed out on the first day of class. Parents should also remind
their children when they have an After School class.
7. Parents must pick their child up by 4:30. Children that are continually picked up late will be asked to
withdraw from the After School Program and no refund will be given for the remaining classes.
8. Class instructors have the discretion to ask a parent to withdraw their child from a class due to disruptive
behavior by the child. Should a child be asked to withdraw from a class, the PTA will grant a prorated refund.
9. The After School Program is organized by parent volunteers who have no connection to the transportation
office or the bus company. The After School Director, Vincent Caporaso, and your child’s class instructor will make
sure that your child is safely placed on the bus. If you have a problem with the bus, you should call the

Grades K-2/ Instructor from TGA of Westchester

Serena Williams and Roger Federer were once beginner tennis players. Learn the fundamentals through a mix of tennis
instruction, rules & etiquette lessons, educational components, character development lessons and physical activity
as students advance through the five-level program. Certified instructors have a passion for working with children and
are trained to help student athletes develop a strong foundation of skills and knowledge as well as a passion for the
sport. Tennis racquets will be provided to all students. Please note: this is a beginner class. It is intended as an
introduction to the sport.
MAD SCIENCE Junior Explorers
Grades K-2/ Instructor from Mad Science of Westchester

Explore the natural world and its adaptations. Observe creepy crawly bugs, make casts of animal tracks & study the
feeding habits of owls as we dissect their lunch’s remains. Some of the weekly topics in this session are: Bugs, Earthworks,
Walloping Weather, Mission Nutrition, All about Animals, Life in the Sea, The Birds & the Beasts, Earth Awareness, Nature
and The Science of Sport!
BASKETBALL/LACROSSE
Grades K-2/ Instructor from Overtime Athletics
Fee $125/ Limit 20 Students
3-2-1…Swish! Join us for Fast Break Basketball where we’ll “cross-over” between GAME PLAY and skills stations. The
games within the game are where we expose players to HOOPS skills like dribbling, passing, shooting, rebounding, and
defense. Alternate the following week with lacrosse--the fastest game on two feet! Our coaches teach you the skills you
need to play: cradling, passing and catching, scooping, shooting and defense. We'll even provide the sticks for this
introduction to the game and exposure to the basics of lacrosse! This perfect mix of scrimmaging and skills stations allows
players to interact with coaches and teammates in a fun and exciting way.
CHEERLEADING
Grades 1-5/ Instructor Chrissy Stanionis and assistants from NRHS cheerleading team

Go Davis! Rev up your school spirit and learn the fundamentals of cheerleading. Class will introduce the basics of
cheerleading including stretching, jumps, motions, and basic tumbling. Participants will learn real New Rochelle
cheerleading cheers. Family and friends are invited to our last class when we will put on a lively performance.
CERAMICS, PLASTIC & PAINT
Grades 3-5/ Instructor Emilia Grabowski

Paint pottery and have fun! Come decorate unique pieces of plaster, ceramics, and wood that will be glazed in the
studio. Each and every week you will make your very own masterpiece.
WEDNESDAY
AVIATION
Grades K-2/ Instructor from Hobby Quest
Fee $170/ Limit 15 Students
Time to turn up your imagination and look into the future with Hobby Quest’s “Flight – The Next Generation”! All of the
planes we are building in this class will be inspired by what aircraft of the future might be like! We’ll get started by building
our Unlimited, a special rubber band powered helicopter that you will get to design yourself! You’ll really be able to open
up your mind and dream up a cool helicopter from the future! Next we’ll build the amazing Seagull, a lightweight electric
plane that is designed to fly as far as a football field! The Airhawk is a super durable free flight glider made out of balsa
wood and foam that will be built from scratch. This plane’s design, when first introduced, was considered the “future of
planes.” In addition to building and flying cool model airplanes, we’ll also learn about the history of flight, and what the
future might hold. Build it! Fly it! Keep it!
MUSIC

MusicStart®: Learn to Read Music and Play Tunes! Using familiar songs, MusicStart teaches all the necessary basics to get
started reading and playing music. The stepping-stone MusicStart® Keyboard is especially designed for learning (and fun!).
It uses 4 instructive attachments that vary the challenge from color matching to letter matching to note matching
and reading standard musical notation. MusicStart® is preparation for (or a supplement to) playing any instrument and
teaches step-by-step problem solving. All materials are provided.
YOGA
Grades 1-4/ Instructor Susan Fried & Michelle Valentine/Budding Buddhas

Through our yoga program, children are provided with the opportunity to develop not only physical strength but also
greater emotional stability and a strong sense of self. Children will move through yoga poses, play yoga games and release
energy while working on focus, balance and concentration. Breath work will be used throughout the class to teach
students how to calm their minds and bodies.
SPORTS SCRIMMAGE
Grades 3-5/ Instructor from Overtime Athletics

Play Ball! Exclusive game-play format features a variety of sports (Basketball, Soccer, Flag Football, etc.), and will be
structured as a REAL GAME from start to finish. Loosen up, warm-up, and choose up sides, then get ready to play! Coaches
will organize each game to teach kids the rules of competition, team play, and sportsmanship. We have always believed
athletes get better the more they play. Here is your chance! This organized scrimmage every week will give players the
opportunity to test new skills and get more comfortable in game situations. Come be a part of our TEAM!
MAD SCIENCE Junior Explorers

Is your energy potential or kinetic? Find out with us as we explore centrifugal force & gyroscopes. Become a junior
engineer and experiment with axles, pulleys, levers, gears and wheels. Some of the weekly topics in this session are:
Harnessing Heat, Mad Science Machines, Mad Magnets, Super Structures, Under Pressure, “Current” Events,
Lights...Color...Action! Watts Up, Energy Burst & Fun-damental Forces.
ACTOR’S GYM
Grades 3-5/ Instructor Nicole Alifante

Before an actor can take on a script for TV, FILM or STAGE, they must learn how to use their instrument. What is that
instrument? Themselves. Each week the students will be introduced to a series of playful exercises that demands they use
their minds, bodies, spirits, hearts and 5 senses. The activities enhance the following: Body Awareness, Imagination,
Observation, Team Work, Memorization, Relaxation, Focus, Listening, Characterization and more! After several weeks of
exercises the actors will be given scenes so that they can apply their new acting skills to actual text. The scenes will be
drawn from various children’s books, movies and plays.

Join us on this fun filled quest to discover the magician in you! Discover how you can amaze your friends and family by
picking things right out of their mind – from what color they choose to how old they are! Astound your audiences by
making a coin disappear under a glass, or magically changing the color of a scarf right before their very eyes! On this quest
you will learn all of the secrets tightly guarded by magicians for centuries, so you too can be a true illusionist! You’ll even
get to show off your new magic skills to your friends and family at the end of the session in a special magic show! Learn

JUNIOR MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

This unit is designed to introduce younger students to the job of an engineer, the field of engineering, and basic concept
of engineering as it relates to energy, materials and movement. Through open and focused exploration, students will
design and construct their own roller coaster, sails for sailboats and egg-drop vehicles.
MUSICAL MANIA
Grades 1-4/ Instructor Garry Novikoff

Channel your creative genius to craft an original piece of musical theater! Through various exercises we will create brand
new songs while learning about tempo, melody and song structure. We will hone our performance skills while employing
expressive movement to tell a story. On the final day, the program will culminate in a fun, exciting showcase of our work.
Come away from the experience not only feeling like musical theater stars, but also knowing that we are gifted writers
and composers!
GOLF

TGA makes it convenient and fun for your child to learn and play golf right on their school campus! Our curriculums were
specially designed by industry-leading golf professionals and education specialists to ensure that the lesson plans are ageappropriate and easy to understand and retain. Students will experience a mix of golf instruction, rules and etiquette
lessons, educational components, character development lessons and physical activity as they advance through the fivelevel program. All equipment will be provided by TGA.
MECHANICAL ENGINEERING
Grades 3-5/ Instructor from Engineering for Kids
Fee $180/ Limit 14 Students
Students use the Engineering Design Process to design, create, test, and refine a variety of machines and mechanical
systems. Students learn basics of fluid mechanics, simple machines, and other designs while constructing roller coasters,
egg-drop vehicles and an incredibly fast dragster they keep at the end of the course.
BACKYARD SPORTS*
Grades 2-5/ Instructor from Backyard Sports
Fee $100/ Limit 15 Students
The BYS Plus Program offers special needs children (participating child must have an IEP or 504) a safe and appropriately
competitive program to learn and enjoy team sports. The activities focus on athletic development skills while stressing
the proper behaviors required for optimal group cooperation. The program builds skills, self-esteem, confidence, and a
lifetime devotion to sports and fitness. There is a 1:1 teaching ratio, and the program is staffed by outstanding
teacher/coaches from Iona Preparatory and The Ursuline School high school peer mentors. To learn more about our
