Instructor Responsibilities
* Prepare and give clear, useful lectures.
* Prepare exams which fairly reflect the material covered.
* Supervise grading of exams and quizzes. Instructors have ultimate responsibility for grades.
* Assign homework and worksheets which will help students learn the material.
* Respond promptly to student questions and concerns.
* Assign course grades.
* Hold office hours (2 hours per week) for Math 231 students.
TA Responsibilities
* Be well prepared for each discussion class, knowledgeable about the material in the textbook,
lectures, worksheets and homework.
* Give students guidance on homework and worksheet problems (this does not mean doing the
problems for them).
* Grade worksheets and quizzes and return them at the next discussion class.
* Help grade exams (under supervision of the instructor).
* Record all grades in Moodle.
* Staff the Math 231 tutoring room.
* Communicate with the instructor on student progress and difficulties.
Student Responsibilities
*Know the course policies and exam dates, which are in the syllabus on Moodle.
* Attend all lecture and discussion classes. Arrive on time and stay for the whole class.
Participate fully in group work during the discussion classes.
* Prepare for lecture by reading the section of the textbook ahead of time.
* Prepare for discussion class by reviewing lecture notes and working on homework.
* Keep up with the work. I recommend spending one hour per day, six days a week on this
course, in addition to class time.
* When you have difficulties with the material, take action promptly. Use the tutoring room
and office hours.
* Keep all of your graded work until after the semester ends.
* Tell the instructor about any problems with discussion sections or with the tutoring room. This
will not get the TA into trouble, but rather will allow us to improve the situation.
*Contact the appropriate person in case of circumstances such as serious illness.
