Special Education Procedures
Anderson County Alternative School
Rationale: An IEP team will meet to discuss the appropriateness of placement at the
Anderson County Alternative School (ACAS).
Process:
1. A Manifestation Determination Review (MDR) is conducted by an IEP team at the
student’s school. Based on the outcome of the MDR, the student may need to
receive homebased services pending an IEP meeting at the ACAS (if attending
the Alternative School is an option). Diane Standridge*, Coordinator for
Secondary SpEd Services, must be notified so that she can email the contact
person at the ACAS to inquire about available slots. The Alternative School can
accommodate a total of 20 special education students from the five Anderson
County districts.
2. Diane Standridge will contact the ACAS to inform them that the district has a
student who needs an IEP meeting (to be held at the ACAS) to determine
appropriateness of placement. Diane will work with the ACAS to set a date/time
for the meeting. To accommodate schedules at the ACAS, meetings will typically
be scheduled for Thursday at 2:00p.m. Only one meeting will be conducted on a
given Thursday.
3. The student’s Case Manager at his/her high school will send the parent a Letter
of Invitation for the meeting. The purpose of the meeting is twofold:
 To consider placement at the ACAS;
 To review other options.
4. The student’s Case Manager and/or district/school’s administrator will gather
data and information for the IEP meeting at the ACAS. Data should include the
current IEP, most recent Psychological Evaluation, any recent Re-evaluations,
and any other pertinent information.
5. If the IEP team agrees upon placement at the ACAS, the student’s Case
Manager (or district designee) will:
 Amend the IEP (IEP amendment form) to reflect changes in service
delivery times, etc.;
 Complete a Prior Written Notice.
*The Anderson County Alternative School has requested that we have only one designated contact
person to work with them regarding special education placements. Our designee is Diane Standridge.
