Ratification Debate PPE Criterion A: Knowing and Understanding Students should be able to: use humanities terminology in context demonstrate knowledge and understanding of subject-specific content and concepts using descriptions, explanations and examples Achievement Level 0 1-2 3-4 5-6 7-8 Level Descriptor The student does not reach a standard described by any of the descriptors below. The student: makes a limited attempt to use some relevant terminology demonstrates basic knowledge and understanding of content and concepts through some descriptions and/or examples The student: uses some humanities terminology appropriately demonstrates knowledge and understanding of content and concepts through simple descriptions, explanations and examples The student: uses relevant humanities terminology accurately demonstrates good knowledge and understanding of content and concepts through descriptions, explanations and examples The student: uses a range of humanities terminology accurately and appropriately demonstrates detailed knowledge and understanding of content and concepts through thorough descriptions, explanations and examples PPE specific expectations: Terminology must include specific concepts from the Constitution like separation of powers, federalism, commerce, or democratic principles like limited government, rule of law. You could reference or incorporate the theories on origins of the state, LOTUS topics, and fundamental concepts of democracy or sources of power. Power should be easy to connect as the Constitution establishes the power of government. There must also include a current event as an example. Include proper/complete bibliographic information. Point (in PPE) should be one sentence and identify a clear position on the ratification debate (so that we don’t have to guess). Proof should be the quote (or quotes) that will be used. Explain should clarify the position using both content and concepts. It will connect the quote to the point in a logical format that shows understanding through descriptions, examples, or explanation. The final grade will be out of 38.
