5 minutes! Anything! In the packet in your folders are the rules. Each Hall Gov member has to be active in the video. Cannot exceed PG-13 rating! Videos must be submitted as

DVD that I will give you! As well as on Facebook with RHSA tag. Videos due March 31 st .

We will view them in April, 3-4 videos each meeting!

Election- NCC

Kristina: Must be able to work with a co! Must have time for office hours, monthly NCC chats. Must be able to represent New Paltz professionally and must also be super friendly. Time management is super cool also!

Sammy: I’m a freshman. I’m PR of Collango running for NCC. I want to run for NCC because of the amount of places you can go. I went to Stony Brook in November and had a lot of fun! I met a lot of friends at Stony Brook and I hope that I can go to more conferences.

Esopus: Move to open question and answer

DuBois: Second

Bliss: What clubs are you involved in?

Sammy: Part of Hall Gov in Collango and was part of CSSA as Secretary. I had a lot going on with other clubs so I had to leave. I’m currently a member but not on eboard.

Crispell: What does NEACURH stand for?

Sammy: North East

Bevier: How many credit hours and how are time management skills?

Sammy: Taking 16 credits and my skills are pretty manageable.

Esopus: What does your schedule look like next year?

Sammy: I was hoping to get the NCC position and hopefully applying for RA as well as

15-16 credits.

Lenape: What was your favorite memory of the conference and how will that help you?

: I went to a program where you made jars that you could take back to campus. I hope to make that program happen again because it helps me remember the happy times I went through.

Crispell: As NCC your job is to represent New Paltz on a regional level, do you feel you can fully represent all members of New Paltz? How and why?

: I feel like I can. I can connect with many people because I’ve grown up in a diverse area as well.

Capen: Can you go into more detail on how your time management skills are so effective?

: I’ve always kept myself busy even through high school. Being in everything now, I am also working at New Paltz middle school. It helps build my time management skills. If I do get RA I won’t be working at the middle school because it is like a full time job. I have a list that keeps me organized throughout the day.

Crispell- extend by 5 minutes

Gage- second

Bevier: It says on your application you’re struggling to find what you want. How do you now NCC is good for you?

: I’ve been to conferences and I loved it. I would love this position.

Crispell: What do you want to do as an executive member that is for the benefit of the campus and Eboard

: I’m sure the eboard is busy and I’d hope to make them feel more relaxed and like we’re family. I’d like to bring joy to people.

Bliss: Do you have any specific program/changes you have in mind?

: I’d like to make sure people in the halls are more involved and more active. I know in

Collango, Shango is usually more active and I would like to bring more people in

College out. I want to bring everyone together.

Lenape: Whatwere the most important thigns you learned at the conference.

: To be yourself. There are so many people there and so many types of people. If you want to represetna a school you have to be yourself.

Capen: You mentioned your job, and all other time commitments, how do you know

NCC wont’ take too much time also?

: My other commitments were different than being on RHSA would be. With CSSA, the students didn’t speak very much English. I had to be fluent in Chinese, had to put on programs. It’s

Collango:Do you think working with a Co would be beneficial?

: Yes

Crispell: How do you handle conflicts with other people?

: I try to confront the person when it gets to a certain point. If it comes to be severe, I would try to confront them and resolve the problem there.

Crispell- extend by 5 minutes

Capen- second

Crispell: Do you feel comfortable speaking in situations that make you uncomfortable especially if you don’t know who they are?

: Most likely because I can strike up conversation with anybody, usually I can.

Bliss: Did you talk to any past NCC members?

: Kristina told me to be confident. Richard told me to be myself and confident as well.

Tim: It says last time you prepared for a conference and had to drop other things. For

NCC you have to prepare for a lot of conferences. How can you handle everything else?

: I’ve learned to manage my time better after those instances. I’ve learned to not take on more than I can handle.

Bevier: Do you know who your Co is? And do you know how NRHH works alongside

RHSA?

: Her name is Ashley. They plan the conferences together.

Gage: Based on your outfit, professionalism seems that something is important to you, is it?

: Yes, I definitely have outfits for these situations.

Capen- extend by 5 minutes

Collango- second

Steph: What does NACURH stand for?

: National Association of Colleges and University Residence Halls.

Kristina: You said you feel uncomfortable talking in front of a lot of people, but that is part of the job. How would you plan to overcome that?

: I feel like I can build that up. Right now I am not as nervous as I was 10 minutes ago.

If I did get the position, I would learn to be more confident.

Bliss: How do you think being an RA and with RHSA would work together?

: There are a few on the eboard who are RAs. I know I can learn from them and it would help with my time management skills as well.

Bouton: Where on your list of priorities does the NCC position fall?

: Second, my classes come first.

Rachel: Earlier you said 5-6 hours for your old EBoard was too much. How many do you think the eboard has?

: 4-5 hours

Collango: Besides NCC, you’re also working with a team. Do you think your background will help you to work with the rest of the eboard?

: Yes because everyone is different and I’ll find a way to work with all of them

Crispell: Do you think you work better by yourself or with a group?

:Yeah I would definitely work better in a group.

Bevier: How would you choose your delegates for the conferences?

: It would be based on their personality and how dedicated they would be.

Bliss: What personality traits do you have that can help New Paltz and your Co?

: I’m friendly, easy to talk to. I’m outgoing and very hardworking.

Bliss: How have you gotten to know other people in other dorms?

Discussion

Crispell: Move to open discussion

Deyo: second

-Said she knows a lot about the position, but it’s about the ability to use her skills for the position. First impressions do play a role in this and it’s important to have someone who is confident with what they want.

-In reference to previous comment, she does know some things, but she is struggling to find what she wants. If she’s struggling then why didn’t she go to the NCCs more to find more information about it?

Matt: If that is what was given, we can’t help that.

-In reference to previous comments, she is a freshman and her confidence is growing.

That is something you have to learn and she does have the experience. She discusses her indecisiveness about what she wants to do with her life, not as much with school.

-In reference to previous comment, she said she’s teaching a class. As a teacher you need a lot of public experience. Maybe kids are different than adults, but she is adaptable and once she has experience she’ll be a better public speaker.

-I think she had a lot of courage admitting she is anxious which means she’s relatable in the moment. I think she will appeal to other people.

-She said if she got RA she would drop her job at high school. Having all these dependencies on ifs is worrisome. She doesn’t seem to have the time. It is hard to make sure you can do the best you can

Collango: move to extend by 5 minutes

Bliss: second

-Aside from teaching, she has worked with eboards before so she has experience with leadership experiences. She can appeal to many different types of people. She grew even in her 10 minutes of speaking in front of us. There are a lot of ifs because you can’t say “I’m definitely going to do this.” If she’s willing to shift her schedule she has planned for what’s to come.

-I feel like its a lot different speaking in front of people who are judging you than speaking with something you’re prepared for as in a conference.

-She seems ready to drop so many things. She needs to think about what she wants to do before she can truly represent New Paltz.

-She has dropped an eboard position before, so you can’t drop NCC because you leave your CO alone.

-There is a lot of uncertainty in her job as well as RA. You don’t always know the background story. As college students we’re always growing.

-We should stop looking at her dropping her position as a bad thing because she gave it up to work harder on other things. Also that she’s working at the middle school as a teacher is admirable as well.

-She said she’s taking 15-17 credits and taking a lot on her plate. She said she will work on the best time management skills and she needs those solidly before she can take this on.

Crispell: extend by 5 minutes

Bevier: second

-If she’s willing to compromise, will she fight for what is right for the NCC position?

-Life is about compromise so everyone needs to figure that out. I think it’s a great quality. Schedule for classes is not up so we cannot judge since nobody knows what they are taking.

-It’s important to look at the pros, not just the cons. This is a freshman student who is bilingual, hardworking and dedicated. She shows her passion for RHSA by dropping something to give her all to hall government.

Bevier: Move to make one more comment

-She does lack confidence in public speaking, but she should try to build that up before she runs for this.

Crispell: Move to vote by secret ballot

Bouton: If you bring your own mug, you used to get a lesser price for refills than you do now.

Kristina: There was a sign that said they changed it to $1.25.

Collango: Snow. If there’s a way they can do quicker plowing at night. I feel they shouldn’t wait Monday morning to get rid of the snow.

Gage: Can we ask for salt on the stairs outside residence halls?

Anthony: Your custodial staff should be shoveling and salting outside your hall. I’ll bring that up at the RD meeting.

Crispell: Can you bring up an alternate parking plan for places to go so it can totally be plowed?

Bouton: Vandenburg hill is still crazy especially with snow. If there can at least be salt.
