24th Scott Business Appreciation Banquet

It was an evening or honor, recognition, and
crowning during the 24th annual Scott Business
Appreciation Banquet. The annual banquet was held
on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 during a 6 p.m.
ceremony at the Scott Events Center.
Officer to owner of First Turn in Scott, Bill Young.
Grooms Engineering & Associates in Scott received
the Acknowledgement of Judging Committee. Mayor
Purvis J. Morrison did the honor in the presentation
of Business of the Year Awards and Mayor’s Award.
Mayor Purvis J. Morrison delivered the welcome
address and introduced the Master of Ceremonies
for the evening State
The following local Scott businesses received
Business of the Year:
Scott Oaks Cleaners, Acadiana Food Mart,
and P & S Electric.
Representative
Stephen J. Ortego. Master of Ceremonies State
Representative Stephen Ortego led all in attendance
in the Pledge of Allegiance, then provided follow-up
information about the “Cankton Loop”. Father Tom
Voorhies of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Scott
gave the invocation and blessing of the evening.
Mayor Purvis J. Morrison gave the Proclamation for
the evening, and took a moment to introduce City
Officials and SBA President. SBA President Tonya
Carola introduced the SBA Officers, while Mayor ProTemp Jan-Scott Richard provided imperative
announcements and remarks. Master of Ceremonies
State Representative Stephen Ortego assisted each
table with the self-introduction of attending
businesses. Guests and businesses in attendance
enjoyed an evening dinner provided by FEZZO’S
Seafood, Steakhouse, & Oyster Bar located in Scott.
During dinner, Master of Ceremonies State
Representative Stephen Ortego gave a brief
biography and introduction of the evening’s guest
speaker. Senator Fred H. Mills, District 22 provided
an evening of laughs, encouragement, but most of
all appreciation to small businesses and what they
continue to do. SBA Ex-Officio Mrs. Carolyn CormierStoute presented the Recognition of Outstanding
Bobby Guidry received the Mayor’s Award for the
evening; Guidry was noted as serving as Mayor of
Scott, starting the
Scott Business
Association, and
providing the theme
“Great Scott! Look
What We’ve Got!”
which gave attention
to the growing City
of Scott and was also
the theme of this
year’s 2014 SBA
Banquet.
Before announcing
this year’s Miss Scott and Jr. Miss Scott, SBA Pageant
Director Mrs. Mary Hebert congratulated the outgoing queens Miss Scott -Alexe’ Chiasson and Jr.
Miss Scott- Sydney Rae Credeur a moment to reflect
on their past year and offer words of
encouragement to the incoming queens. With the
help of SBA Pageant Committee members, SBA
Pageant Director Mrs. Mary Hebert announced and
crowned Miss Scott- Hannah Simmons & Jr. Miss
Scott Devyn Chiasson as this year’s SBA Queens.
Chief Chad Leger did the honor of announcing the
SBA Mardi Gras King and Queen; this year’s King
Alexander XIX is John Wayne Prejean and his
daughter Lacy Prejean will serve as Queen Olivia XIX.
