16. Guidelines to Presenters
The following guidelines are suggested to podium presenters at the ASM. Some uniformity of
presentations is required for recording in the AOA e-proceedings.
1. Title of Presentation – This should highlight the key finding of your study.
2. Allow the audience a moment to read the Declaration of Interests slide. All Presenters
should list their interests and state if a Conflict of Interest is relevant to the presentation.
3. One slide per 20-30 seconds.
4. Avoid busy slides. Excessive script or images distract the audience from what you are
saying.
5. Visual appeal. Gold or white script on a blue background has high readability.
6. Ensure embedded video is compatible. Rehearse with AV staff in the Speaker Set-up
Room beforehand.
7. Structure your presentation: Introduction and statement of study objectives, brief Methods,
Results: Including analysis of data, Conclusions and how has the study added to the
literature/take home message.
8. Rehearse and please stick to time.
9. Free papers are 7 minutes with 3 minutes Discussion
17. Guidelines to Chairman’s Role
The Chairman’s role is crucial in ensuring the success of the session. The following guidelines may
help in managing the session:
Please arrive 10 minutes before the session is due to begin and introduce yourself to the
Presenters
1. If Presenters are registrars/residents or Scientists or International Speakers, please briefly
introduce them to the audience, using their mini CV.
2. Please ensure the session starts on time and each Presenter keeps strictly to time
3. Please encourage questions and audience interaction with the Presenter .
4. Consider inviting a member of the audience to comment on the paper and guide the
discussions as appropriate.
5. Have a back-up question should there be no questions from the floor.
