Dear Parents or Guardians:
During the months of May and June, my staff and I will take a great deal of time and care in
developing tentative classes for the 2015-2016 school year. We strive to create classes that are
balanced in terms of race and gender; classes that have independent and dependent workers, as
well as leaders and followers.
Currently, we are projected to have 3 kindergarten classes, 3 first grade classes, 3 second grade
classes, 3 third grade classes, 2 fourth grade classes, 1 combination class (Grade 3/4), and 3 fifth
grade classes next school year. This plan is subject to change based on increases and decreases
in enrollment between now and the beginning of the 2015-16 school year. Montgomery County
Public Schools (MCPS) has set the following maximum class size limits: 26 students in each
kindergarten class, 28 students in each Grade 1-3 class, and 30 students in each Grade 4-5 class.
Please be assured that I closely monitor class sizes on an ongoing basis and immediately request
an additional teacher if we reach the maximum number of students in a grade level.
As we organize our classrooms for next school year, we would like to give you the opportunity to
provide input about your child. If you would like to provide input, please complete the attached
form and return it to your child’s teacher no later than Thursday, May 7.
Please note: This form is not to be used as a teacher request, but rather your opportunity to
describe how you see your child as a learner. We also need to know if your child will be returning
to Flower Valley Elementary School next school year. Thank you for your input.
