You need to submit a completed packet along with full payment to the specified address as soon as possible. Entries will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. Slots will be filled in the order received and postmarked. Entries will be closed after the first 10 teams and 5 alternate entries are received. ALL INFORMATION IN THIS PACKET AND THE ENTRY FEE MUST BE SUBMITTED IN ORDER TO PROCESS YOUR ENTRY. In the event you are unable to compete, notification must be received in writing by June 18 to refund half of the entry fee. After June 18 the full entry fee will be forfeited. If the ranch is a TSCRA member, team members must provide a W-2, 1099, cancelled check or payroll form showing the contestant is employed and has received at least $1,500 in annual salary from ranch he/she is competing with. A current WRCA membership may be used as proof of employment. 2. Team members may also hold an individual TSCRA membership. A TSCRA membership number should be provided on the entry form. No individual may compete on more than one team, a team is defined as no more than four contestants that are at least 18 years of age or older as of July 18, 2015. 2. All contestants must wear cowboy hat, boots, jeans, and MATCHING long sleeved shirts while in the area, at any time. 3. Leggings, chaps or chinks are required to be worn by each contestant competing in an event except the wild cow milking. 4. All contestants are required to ride in the introduction/grand entry to start the rodeo as well as the team recognition at the end of the rodeo. 5. Each team captain is required to meet with the arena judges one hour prior to the performance. The location for this meeting will be announced prior to the rodeo. 6. The captain will be the only team member allowed to address the arena judge at any time. 7. If the captain has an issue with the results of a time or a decision, the protest must be made at the time of the event. Once the team/contestant leaves the arena, the arena judge’s decision and final time or score will remain as stands. 8. Arena judges will have the final decision on any discrepancy. No further discussion, video tape review or any other format will be considered. 9. While the announcer is familiar with ranch rodeos, anything that he/she announces to the spectators may or may not reflect the final decision of the arena judges and therefore the arena judges decisions will be final and take precedence over any announcements. 10. All discrepancies, accidents or mechanical malfunctions that occur while competing will be handled at the discretion of the arena judges. 11. Legal head catches are defined as: (a) Muley cattle must look through the loop; shoulders forward is a legal catch. Behind one or both shoulders is an illegal catch. (b) Horned cattle can either be roped around the horns, neck or half-head. Behind one or both shoulders, half hitch, figure 8 is an illegal catch. 12. If cattle are caught with an illegal loop then the rope must be cleared from the horse before the next loop is thrown, this will be a spent loop. 13. A total of 55 points may be awarded in each event. These points shall be given to the top ten places as follows: 1st Place / 10 points 2nd Place / 9 points 3rd Place / 8 points 4th Place / 7 points 5th Place / 6 points 6th Place / 5 points 7th Place / 4 points 8th Place / 3 points 9th Place / 2 points 10th Place / 1 points 14. No time or score will receive a zero towards their points. If two teams tie in an event, they will receive equal points for that event in the scoring. 15. Penalty seconds added to a team’s time WILL NOT disqualify a team, if the final time exceeds the time limit. 16. The team with the most points is the winner. In case of a tie in the overall team standings, the resolution of the tie will be as follows: a. 1st Tiebreaker: team receiving points in the most events is the winner b. 2nd Tiebreaker: most points in Team Branding Levelland Ranch Rodeo Entry Packet Page 5 17. 18. 19. 20. 21. 22. 23. 24. c. 3rd Tiebreaker: most points in Team Doctoring d. 4th Tiebreaker: most points in Wild Cow Milking e. 5th Tiebreaker: most points in Bronc Riding In each event ropes must be cleared from animal to receive a flag to stop the time. Contestants can either dally or tie hard and fast. If a rider steps off his/her horse to help a teammate, their rope MUST be cleared from the saddle and horse. Reason for disqualification: a. Improper conduct b. Physical or verbal abuse of any animal or individual c. Team not in place and ready to compete d. Failure to drop a rope with an illegal head catch e. Working the wrong animal f. Roping cattle behind the chalk line Any unsportsmanlike conduct against arena judges, show management, committee member, livestock contractor, livestock or other contestant. Stock numbers for events are drawn at random and the broncs will be chute run. No alcoholic beverages permitted in the arena. A health certificate no more than 45 days old must be presented for all horses to be used in the rodeo. RANCH BRONC RIDING 1. All bronc rider(s) must be designated at the arena judges’ meeting. 2. A standard working saddle must be used and a single rein will be attached to the throat latch of a regular bucking horse leather halter. No P.R.C.A. rigging or hackamores allowed. 3. Rider is required to ride for eight seconds. No mark out rule. 4. Points will be awarded for the difficulty of the horse and also for the degree of aggressiveness, control and exposure demonstrated by the rider. 5. Bronc rider is not allowed the use of a night latch, nylon latigo or other special device. Riders are allowed to grip the saddle or saddle horn but may receive more points for riding free handed or for spurring the horse. 6. Flank cinches must be hobbled at no more than 12 inches. This is a cowboy bronc riding! 7. Re-rides will be awarded at the discretion of the judges. 8. If the flank strap comes off the horse before the eight seconds has expired, bronc rider will have the option of a re-ride. The option for a re-ride must be elected immediately following the ride. TEAM DOCTORING 1. The event will have a two minute time limit and a three loop limit to head, heel and tie 3 legs (cross bones). 2. Four team members may participate in this event. 3. Cattle will be numbered 1-12. 4. As the team approaches the line, one rider will enter the herd, at which time will start and the designated number will be called. 5. The other three riders will hold herd. Herd holders can cross the line but cannot help sort. 6. You will sort, head, heel (no penalty for single hock), tie 3 legs, and remove head and heel ropes from the yearling. The time will stop when both ropes are clear. Yearling must stay tied 6 seconds. Ropers may NOT dismount during this event. 7. You will only be allowed 2 extra yearlings to cross the line, BUT, each of the additional yearlings that cross the line, other than the designated yearling, will add 5 seconds to your time. If more cattle than that cross the line, it will result in a no time. If your yearling re-enters the herd, you Levelland Ranch Rodeo Entry Packet Page 6 must have ALL cattle (meaning your 2 extras), behind the line and re-sort your designated yearling. Once yearling is caught, herd may go where they choose without penalty. The team with the fastest time wins. TEAM BRANDING 1. The event will have a two minute time limit. 2. Teams will consist of four cowboys; one roper, two flankers, & one brander per team. 3. Two teams will compete at the same time. Teams that are not participating are asked to help hold the herd but not to interfere with the teams that are participating in any way to help or hurt them. 4. A herd of cows and calves will be settled behind a line at the end of the arena. Two calves must be branded in less than the two minutes to earn a qualifying score. 5. Time starts when the designated roper crosses the line. 6. Only one calf may be roped at a time and must be roped behind the line. If two calves are roped at the same time, the team must turn one loose and work only one at a time. 7. Calf must heeled before flanking the calf. NO NECK CATCHES! A neck catch will result in a NO time. 8. Flankers cannot touch the calf until entire calf crosses the line or it results in a NO TIME. But the flankers can handle the rope. 9. After the calf is flat on its side and the rope is removed, the branding iron may be removed from the branding pot, the calf may be branded on either side from the shoulders to the hip (NO head, neck, leg, belly, or tail), and the branding iron is to return to the branding pot. 10. After the second calf is branded the time will stop when the branding iron is returned to the branding pot. 11. Loping in the herd, at the judge’s discretion, will result in a NO time. 12. The team with the fastest time wins. WILD COW MILKING 1. The event will have a two minute time limit and a 3 loop limit. Any team member may rope. 2. Four team members may participate in this event. 3. Team will be horseback. A cow will be turned out as the team remains stationary at the opposite end of the arena. Time will start when the cow crosses the line and the timer’s flag drops. 4. The designated cow must be roped with a legal head catch. 5. The team will be disqualified if the cow is jerked down or tripped, at the judge’s discretion. 6. Animal must be standing on all four legs when milked. A 20 second penalty may be added to the final time for mishandling livestock by the arena judge. 7. Roper can NOT get off his horse to help hold the animal or milk. 8. The muggers hold the cow with the help from the roper on horseback, while the milker milks her into a standard 12 oz. longneck bottle. Any one of the contestants may milk the cow. The milker may pass the bottle to another contestant to run to the judge on foot to the designated circle. Once the contestant enters the circle and all ropes are off the animal, the flagman will drop his flag stopping the time. 9. The bottle must have at least enough milk to pour from the bottle by the arena judge. A 5 second count will be given the judge for milk to drip from the bottle. If milk does not drip from the bottle or the contestant pours the milk from the bottle, the team is disqualified. We will not shake the bottle for 10 minutes trying to get a drop out! 10. The team with the fastest time wins. Levelland Ranch Rodeo Entry Packet Page 7 Payout Information Payout Information: 20% of the payout will be held back as a donation to TSCRA youth programs. 5% will be held back as a stock fee. The winning team will receive 40% of the remaining payout and prize buckles. The second place team will receive 25% of the remaining payout. The third place team will receive 10% of the remaining payout. The Overall Top Horse will receive a custom handmade bit. The Overall Top Hand will receive a custom pair of spurs. All prizes will be distributed the night of the rodeo or mailed to winning team captain after the rodeo. 100% of added money will be added to the total for the winning team. Additional prizes may be awarded to contestants. Payment Process: TSCRA will pay all winning teams in cash on Saturday night, immediately following the performance. Payments may be to the winning ranch or the team members. This decision shall be made by the team captain. A completed W-9 form is required in order to pay a winning ranch or individual. Please note that for any team or single individual payout amounts above $600, this payment is considered taxable miscellaneous income and TSCRA will report to the IRS, as required by law, that the payee has received this miscellaneous income. Each team member who receives a payment will be required to receive their payments in person. Levelland Ranch Rodeo Entry Packet Page 8 Liability Forms All team members are required to complete and return the enclosed form entitled ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF RISK, ACCEPTANCE OF RESPONSIBILITY, RELEASE, AND INDEMNITY AGREEMENT. If a substitute or alternate team member is used that team member must sign the agreement in order to participate in the rodeo. We have enclosed a copy to be completed and returned with this packet. Your team entry is not considered complete until we have received the completed form signed by all team members.
