POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Associate Instructor
Program: CREC-wide
General Purpose:
Under the supervision of the team leader or designee, to supervise and coach students
engaged in training at off-site and on-site locations and to maintain data on each
student. Performs other general administrative tasks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Supervises, instructs and counsels small groups of students engaged in vocational
training at both on-campus and community based work sites. Implements continuing
behavioral programs for each student as well as specific behavioral interventions as
needed. Maintains liaison with host staff at off-site locations. Assists teachers with
planning daily instruction as well as supplementary lesson plans.
2. Collects and enters into computer daily productivity and behavioral data for each
student. Performs clerical task such as copying and record keeping.
3. Develops, maintains and troubleshoots computer programs established to track
students’ accounts, payroll, billing for work performed off-site, student scheduling, and
student objectives. Also maintains database of contacts for businesses where work is
performed both off-site and subcontracted on-site.
4. Performs other administrative functions including generating permission slips for offsite work, calling or sending notes to students’ parents, ordering and maintaining
supplies, washing vans, cleaning office/workshop areas and bathrooms and working with
problem students as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Requires Bachelor’s degree and several years of experience working with special needs
students. May require training in CPR, First Aid and how to handle medical
emergencies. Requires knowledge of basic teaching skills and adaptive strategies for
special needs children and behavior management skills. Must have computer skills
needed to perform data entry, report preparation and basic
troubleshooting. Organizational and time management skills along with skills in basic
math, report writing and editing are also important for this position. Experience with group
dynamics and experiential or activity-based learning is preferred.
Supervision
This position has no direct supervisory responsibility. It may be assigned responsibility
for scheduling, reviewing and checking work and training of staff assigned to vocational
workshops.
