Mission and Goals
The mission of The Houston County Career Academy is “to ensure a viable 21 st century workforce for Houston County.”
Our Goals:
 Help Houston County high schools to exceed the majority of USE benchmarks in Perkins’ accountability measures
in years 1-5 of the charter.
 Help Houston County high schools increase the number of students graduating annually who meet the
requirements of the new State Graduation Rule. From the 2010-2011 school year, the Charter School will meet
or exceed the Graduation Rate Trajectories identified by the state, beginning with 80% in 2011 and increasing
5% per year to 100% by 2015. From 2015 forward, the Charter School will maintain 100% graduation rate for
the remainder of its term. Additionally, data-driven performance-based goals for the Charter School will be
incorporated in the Houston County School System Balanced Scorecard.
 Increase the percentage of Houston County students earning post-secondary credit in career and technical
programs by 2.5% per year during the term of this Agreement.
 Increase the number of Houston County students in work-based learning programs by 2.5% per year during the
term of this Agreement.
 Establish baseline data in GA BEST (business ethics student training) program and assist in awarding certificates
for its students during 2012 - 13 school year.

Plans for student support include the following initiatives:
Tier 2- Response to Intervention- parent conferences held in an effort to build relationships as well as track
students that are at risk of graduating.

including career and college planning.
CAB program: Caring Adult in the Building- each fulltime student is grouped with a faculty advisor to assist with
goal setting and career planning.
Intervention Plan implemented for two groups of at risk students (high risk for dropping out). This effort is
spearheaded by the counselor and school’s social worker.

GA BEST. Georgia Business Ethics Student Training is a plan which includes 10 modules that measures soft skills. All
students attending the Career Academy will have an opportunity to earn a certificate annually.
GA BEST data
FY 13 253 of 392 (65%) part-time students earned the GA BEST certificate
FY13 19 of 84 (23%) fulltime students earned the GA BEST certificate
Teachers listed attendance, productivity and academic performance as the top standards where the students scored the
lowest. Three students were selected to compete in the state’s top GA BEST award.
All students attending the Career Academy completed a career portfolio. The portfolio included modules covered in GA
BEST. The portfolio was a part of the fulltime students’ exit interview.
