Georgia Career Academies Project Quarterly Report (This report reflects April - June activity) June, 2012 Houston County Career Academy 1311 Corder Road Warner Robins, GA 31088 Mission and Goals The mission of The Houston County Career Academy is “to ensure a viable 21st century workforce for Houston County.” Our Goals: Help Houston County high schools to exceed the majority of USE benchmarks in Perkins’ accountability measures in years 1-5 of the charter. Help Houston County high schools increase the number of students graduating annually who meet the requirements of the new State Graduation Rule. From the 2010-2011 school year, the Charter School will meet or exceed the Graduation Rate Trajectories identified by the state, beginning with 80% in 2011 and increasing 5% per year to 100% by 2015. From 2015 forward, the Charter School will maintain 100% graduation rate for the remainder of its term. Additionally, data-driven performancebased goals for the Charter School will be incorporated in the Houston County School System Balanced Scorecard. Increase the percentage of Houston County students earning post-secondary credit in career and technical programs by 2.5% per year during the term of this Agreement. Increase the number of Houston County students in work-based learning programs by 2.5% per year during the term of this Agreement. Increase the number of Houston County seniors who earn Work Ready Certificates by 2% per year. Partnerships New partnership being formed with Helms College, Culinary Arts College in Macon Georgia Each CTAE area is actively seeking new advisory council members for 2012 – 13 school year. Budget Fundraising activities- FCCLA and HOSASeveral efforts were sponsored to raise money to defray cost for National Leadership Conferences. HCCA faculty and staff donated $2,228.63 to Relay for Life. Governance & Leadership The Board of Directors for Houston County Career Academy had its first meeting on February 25, 2010 and has been meeting on schedule on the 4th Thursday of each month with the exception of October and December. Two parent representatives will be selected to serve on the board in August, 2012. (Juniors will be given preference for enrollment with exception granted to seniors who have room in their schedule to complete the two semesters of A+ Certification in Computer Repair. Sophomores and freshmen may enroll with preference given to sophomores.) Commit to a pathway offered at the career academy. Contact base school counselor for approval to register for a course offered at HCCA. NOTES: (1) A lottery system will be implemented when requests for class exceed seats available. A special needs teacher is also housed part-time at HCCA to assist any special needs students. Student Support initiatives implemented during the 2011- 12 school year will be evaluated to determine the effectiveness. Standards & Curriculum Teachers completed Common Core Georgia Performance Standard elluminate sessions. Structure No physical structure was changed this past quarter. Parking spaces were painted to include 4 designated visitors parking. Bus loading and unloading zones were designated. Faculty & Staff Three faculty positions will be filled August, 2012- science teacher, healthcare science teacher, and dual enrollment instructor for criminal justice. Evaluation End of pathway assessments are national industry- developed certifications or national occupational assessments or state licensures or state issued certificates. The assessments provide pathway completers the opportunity to earn certification or certificates that are recognized throughout the state and nation while in high school. High school students who have successfully completed three specific courses in a career pathway where an assessment has been developed; or the students are enrolled in the last designated course in a career pathway where an assessment has been developed. The work ethic grade is recorded on Smart Web, the student’s report card and permanent record just like the course grade. Explanation of Work Ethics Grades 3 Exceeds Expectations: 2 Meets Expectations: 1 Needs Improvement: 0 Unacceptable: Work ethics performance is exemplary. Student has consistently demonstrated characteristics that will stand out in the work environment. All work ethics standards are met. The quality of student's work ethics performance is that of a good employee in the normal work environment. Some standards were not met. Additional training in employability skills is recommended. Work ethics performance was below average. Additional training in employability skills is a must if the student is to survive in the work environment.
