How would we sum it up?
You will be working in a highly intellectual environment where you will be continually challenged.
You will be able to put your natural talent for numbers to good use by working with complex

What’s the business all about?
The business is Tangentix. Very simply they are able to take large computer games and compress
them to about 1/3 of the size. They were set up a little over three years ago to exploit some
mathematical research work at the University of Bradford which enabled 3D geometry to be
represented in a highly-compressed form. This initial research has been further developed to create
the compression toolset they are using today. The business received $2.1m in Series A funding in
March of this year to commercialise these products and they are now in the process of picking up
their first substantial clients from the computer gaming industry, who as you might expect are very
excited about this opportunity to reduce file sizes and speed up downloads. This is a hugely exciting

What would you be doing?
Reporting into the Chief Technical Officer, you will be working on a variety of intellectually
challenging and stimulating work. As this is a rapidly growing and changing business, there will
rarely be a typical day and your role and responsibilities will be able to flex according to your talents.
However typical activities might include:
 Work alongside more experienced colleagues to understand, learn and develop the technical
processes
 Assist with compression of the games
 Running tests and QA to ensure the compression has been successful
 Identifying and resolving any issues
 Providing technical support to customers and games developers
 Exploring and developing new technologies that can be integrated into the process
What type of person are they looking for?
They are looking for a highly numerate graduate with an understanding of computational
mathematics who wants to work with leading-edge technology and may even have an inventive
streak! The successful candidate will:
 Be a graduate from a highly numerate degree disciple such as Engineering, Maths, Physics or
Computer Science





Have a strong grounding in mathematics
Knowledge of C#, C/C++, Java or Javascript
Be highly intelligent, imaginative and bright
Be logical and pragmatic - great at solving problems
Be self-driven, fully able to take responsibility for things and work independently
What are all the practical details?
Starting salary: £14,500pa
Location: Electric Works, Sheffield Digital Campus, Sheffield, S1 2BJ
Start date: July/August
Length of internship: Six months, with an opportunity to secure a permanent role
