Advisors Meeting Minutes December 3, 2014 Announcements: Alicia sent out information about travel reimbursement which should be submitted by Dec. 15 in order to be reimbursed for the fall semester travel. Please notify your contact person regarding any students that should receive incomplete grades for field education. Reasons to assign an incomplete include students who started placement late or missed time in the field which they need to make up; students who switched placement in mid-semester; students who are not progressing or have not met expectations. If the student is not meeting expectations a Problem Resolution meeting should have been held or scheduled. In addition, we discussed that students who do not submit their reflection assignment to their advisors by the end of the semester can also be given an incomplete. Please submit your grades to us by Dec. 15. Students are in the process of signing up to meet with a member of the Field Education staff to discuss their advanced placement. They should also be talking with you about their learning goals for next semester and the type of placement that will support these. Please contact your foundation year students if they do not reach out to you. Reminder that the mid-year assessments of students that are done with their field instructors should be sent to you. We do not need them in the Field Education office. If you do not receive them, please let us know and also follow up with the field instructor to remind them to do so. Remainder of meeting was a panel presentation by Meg Matthews, Bethany Montgomery and Jane Honoroff on alternative models of supervision provided by outside MSW field instructors. Meg and Bethany are also advisors to BUSSW students. Jane has been providing outside supervision for about 15 years. We had a good discussion regarding some of the challenges and benefits to this model as part of a larger exploration of how to support students’ learning in agencies that have difficulty providing appropriate supervision. Next meeting is January 7, 2015. Tom Byrne, a new faculty member in Policy Department will present his research on homeless veterans. Happy Holidays!
