The critical areas, organized into units, deepen and extend understanding of linear relationships, in part by contrasting them with exponential phenomena, and in part by applying linear models to data that exhibit a linear trend. Coordinate Algebra uses algebra to deepen and extend understanding of geometric knowledge from prior grades. The final unit in the course ties together the algebraic and geometric ideas studied. The Mathematical Practice Standards apply throughout each course and, together with the content standards, prescribe that students experience mathematics as a coherent, useful, and logical subject that makes use of their ability to make sense of problem situations. Note: Projects/Presentations may be recorded as either a summative grade or a formative grade, depending on the requirements of the assignment and the discretion of the teacher. Students will know the percentage prior to the assignment. YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE CREDIT ON ANY ASSIGNMENT (HOMEWORK, TESTS, QUIZZES, ETC) UNLESS YOU SHOW WORK. The completion of all homework assignments is important in being successful in Mathematics 1. Every effort must be given in doing and completing homework as well as class work. Testing: Georgia End of Course Tests (EOCT) are required in nine courses: Coordinate Algebra, Math I, Math II, Economics, US History, 9th Literature, American Literature, Biology, and Physical Science. For Class of 2015 and 2016 students, EOCTs count 20% of the student’s final grade. All students are required to pass the Georgia High School Graduation Tests in Writing. The final exam in all courses, other than the EOCTs listed above, will count 20%. Vocabulary: Terms will be presented and concepts and definitions developed as the material is presented and studied. You are responsible for learning the vocabulary in each unit as well as for creating flash cards. A vocabulary quiz may be given. Materials Needed: 3 ring binder Pencils and paper PENCILS ONLY TI 30XIIS Multi-view Calculator Work done in ink will not be accepted. NOTEBOOKS ARE REQUIRED Notebooks should be divided into 3 sections, notes, homework/classwork, and test/quizzes. Notes should be headed with the date and the essential question(s). Homework should be headed with the date and placed in the section by date given. All assessments (quizzes/tests) should be placed in the section by date. Tutoring: Tutoring sessions will be offered frequently. A schedule will be given out during the first week of school. Failure to appear within 10 minutes of the scheduled time may result in no tutoring session. Students may opt to attend tutorial sessions scheduled by other teachers. A schedule of all tutoring times will be posted in the room. Tutoring sessions may be cancelled or changed due to faculty meetings, parent conferences, etc… Extra Credit: Extra credit is not considered an option for making up work or improving low averages. Hiram High School Mastery Learning/Grade Recovery Policy 2013 - 2014 A student may recover a Summative assignment provided that it was attempted when initially given. In order to recover a Summative assignment, students must consult with their teacher to obtain the remediation assignment. This remediation assignment may include, but is not limited to, correcting the formal assignment, completing extra assignments, attending tutorial session(s), and homework completion. The student must obtain the remediation assignment within three days of receiving the graded formal assignment that they wish to recover. The student must complete the recovery assignment within a time period to be determined by their teacher. FORMATIVE assignments (homework, quizzes, etc) MAY NOT BE RECOVERED. Grading of recovered assignment: The original assessment grade and the recovered assessment grade will be averaged together to determine your final grade. *************************************************************************************** Paulding County School District High School Exam Exemption Attendance Incentive Program 2013 - 2014 A final exam exemption incentive program has been developed to promote good attendance in high schools. During semester final exam days, Paulding County students in all high schools will be offered the opportunity to exempt up to three final exams. To be eligible to participate in the Incentive Program, you must meet the following criteria: Course Average 80% to 89% Number of Absences Per Course 3 or fewer Number of Tardies to the particular class 3 or fewer Total number of tardies throughout the day 10 or fewer 90% and above 5 or fewer 5 or fewer 10 or fewer A student with a grade of 80% to 89% in a class at the end of the semester and 3 or fewer absences in the class (excused or unexcused) may exempt the final exam for that class (maximum of three exams). The student cannot have more than a combination of 3 tardies (excused or unexcused) in the class and late check ins/early checkouts from class during the semester. This attendance requirement is per class period. The student cannot have accumulated a total of 10 tardies (excused or unexcused) and/or late check ins/early checkouts throughout the day to all classes. This attendance requirement is for school day attendance – all classes combined. A student with a grade of 90% or higher in a class at the end of the semester and 5 or fewer absences in the class (excused or unexcused) may exempt the final exam for that class (maximum of three exams). The student cannot have more than a combination of 5 tardies (excused or unexcused) in the class and late check ins/early checkouts from class during the semester. This attendance requirement is per class period. The student cannot have accumulated a total of 10 tardies (excused or unexcused) and/or late check ins/early checkouts throughout the day to all classes. This attendance requirement is for school day attendance – all classes combined. Additional Guidelines: The student must be enrolled in the Paulding County School District before the October or February FTE Count. Teachers will notify students of their grades going into the final exam and distribute exemption forms to those students who qualify for exemption. It is up to the individual classroom teacher to check/verify that the student meets the attendance requirement for exemption. The teacher must keep record of that data. Any student who wishes to exempt one or more final exam(s) must return the exemption form to the school with parent signature prior to the deadline set by the school. Students may not exempt the same exam first and second semester. For courses which include an EOCT, the student must take the EOCT which counts 20% of the course average. The EOCT may not be exempted because it is a state mandated assessment. The student may or may not be able to exempt the final teacher-designed assessment to be given during the regular exam time in an EOCT class. The teacher makes the final decision based on the nature of the assessment. If a student exempts an exam, the final grade for the course will be the class average – to include all assignments/assessments – prior to the exam. All appeals are generated through the principal’s office and that decision is final.
