-Necessary charges incurred are to be charged to the donor account. When the patient becomes an organ donor, the initial patient account
will always be inactivated at the time of brain death declaration. The organ procurement coordinator is available to answer charge/billing
questions.

-3-4 Buckets of clean ice for organ packaging
-Hibiclens and towels (used to clean the body)
-Post-mortem care per hospital policy
-Gurney to transport the body to hospital morgue after recovery process

Staffing
Needs:
▪ Circulator
▪ 1 Surgical Scrub
▪ 1 Anesthesiologist or Certified Registered Nurse

▪ 2 Circulators at cross clamp (if available)
▪ Surgical scrub (PNTB coordinator will advise if this person is needed)
Room
Preparation:
▪ 1 Sternal saw with power source (if available)
▪ 5-8 liters LR, NS or Physiosol on ice (pour bottles)
▪ 2 Suction sets with several extra canisters (quad sets
preferred)
▪ 2 Bovies
▪ Warming blanket on OR table
▪ 2 IV poles for PNTB use
▪ Slush machine, if available
▪ 15-25 liters NS, LR, or Physiosol cold pour bottles on ice prior to skin
incision
▪ Slush machine (if available)
▪ 1 IV pole for PNTB use
▪ Defibrillator with internal paddles
▪ Lung recovery: Bronch cart with bronchoscope
Surgical
Supplies:
▪ 1 Standard laparotomy tray
▪ 8 Perforating towel clips
▪ 6 Non-perforating towel clips
▪ 2 packs each Med. & Lg. titanium ligating clips
▪ 1 small minor tray
Back Table:
▪ 1 mayo stand without cover
▪ 1 Back table without cover
Notes:
PNTB will provide:
▪ Custom abdominal pack
▪ Instruments:
Balfour retractor
Sternal retractor
Vascular clamps
LDS and GIA staplers with reloads
Lebsche sternal knife (if no power sternal saw available)
▪ 1 additional Mayo stand without cover
▪ 1 Suction setup with extra canisters, if available (quad setup is ideal)
▪ 1 additional back table without cover
▪ Kick bucket with red bag
