Mrs. Milling’s ALL Mrs. Milling’s Class 4th Grade STARS Lesslie Elementary School Weekly Assignment Sheets: Each week, you will receive a sheet with your assignments for the entire week. It will outline what you need to do every day for every subject. Your test dates will also be included on this sheet. Homework will be assigned on a daily basis. It will be your responsibility to keep up with your homework sheet for the entire week. It will be important for you to keep track of this sheet because it will have important information about projects as well as the skills being taught for the week and the dates of tests and quizzes. Special Projects: Several times during the year, you will have a special project. These projects will contain a variety of tasks that help you master various skills. The projects will be based on the specific Social Studies or Science unit at the time. All of the projects will require you to use some English Language Arts skills and creativity as a way for you to continually practice skills taught in the classroom. These projects will include a rubric which will outline important information to include in the project, as well as how you will be graded. Daily Reading Log Journal: I believe that reading is a very significant part of a child’s learning process. Keeping this in mind, you will be expected to read for at least 15 - 20 minutes every night. You are permitted to read any book, magazine, newspaper, etc… of your choice. After reading, you need to record the information in your reading log journal and answer the question from your homework sheet in complete sentences. These responses must be at least a paragraph long. A parent/guardian must also initial your journal every night. The logs are to be turned in every Friday for an English Language Arts grade. Communication Folders: Communication folders will be sent home every week with your graded classwork and a progress report from the previous week. The progress report will outline your grades in each subject from the previous week as well any notes about your behavior. Please have your parents sign the report and return it to school the next day. You will have until the end of each week to turn in your progress reports. Failing to do so will result in negative consequences (lost of recess, phone call home, etc…). Tests and Quizzes: You will be given tests in ELA and Math each week. These tests will be given on Fridays, based on the material that was taught that week. In Science and Social Studies, you will be given quizzes as well as unit tests. The dates for the tests and quizzes will be noted on your weekly assignment sheet. All test grades will be sent home in the Communication Folders. The test papers will be kept in your grade portfolio in the classroom and they will be available for you to look at anytime. Your grades will be based on the grading scale provided. Interactive Notebooking: This year, we will be taking notes in Social Studies and Science in a new and engaging way. We will begin keeping interactive notebooks (also known as notebooking) using your composition notebooks. This notebook will help you to organize your thinking and require you to interact with the material that you learn in class. These notebooks will be a big part of your Social Studies and Science grades as they will be checked periodically for neatness, completeness, and understanding of the material taught in class. Classroom Management Plan This year, I will have very high expectations for my students. As Hard Working Hornets, all students are expected to follow these expectations: Mrs. Milling’s All Stars are… Actively Engaged Learners Leaders Studious Thoughtful Achievers Respectful Supporters Furthermore, in our classroom, I expect my students to: o Follow directions the first time they are given; o Always try their best each and every day; o Make good choices; o Think before acting and speaking; o Treat everyone the way they want to be treated; and o Keep all hands, feet, and objects to themselves. Rewards and Consequences Students will be encouraged to think before they act and make good choices. They will understand that all of their actions have consequences. These consequences can be negative or positive depending on the actions. The students will always be rewarded for good behavior such as, following directions, completing homework, and performing good deeds. When I observe any of these behaviors taking place, the students will be given bucks as a positive consequence. The bucks will be used in a school store that will be open every other week. The more bucks a student has, the more rewards they can purchase. For the students that do not exhibit good behaviors, there will be negative consequences. 1st offense: Verbal Warning 2nd offense: Recess will be taken away 3rd offense: Student will be sent to B.A.T. (Behavioral Adjustment Time). He/she will complete a form telling why he/she was sent to B.A.T. and what will be done the next time to avoid being sent to B.A.T. 4th offense: Phone call or note home to parents and/or a Parent/ Teacher conference will be requested to discuss student’s behavior 5th offense: Removal from class (office) **** Failure to complete homework will result in automatic loss of recess or free time for the day.
