CLASS TITLE: RESPIRATORY CARE SPECIALIST II - F/C
ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)
This is work organizing and maintaining a respiratory care unit, monitoring home respiratory therapy
care for out patients and/or performing respiratory therapy treatment for research purposes. The
employee(s) in the position(s) allocated to this class must spend a minimum of 75 percent of their time
performing duties which involve contact with patients/inmates in a correctional or forensic facility or
institution.

Installs and operates respiratory therapy equipment.
Inspects and maintains respiratory therapy equipment.
Evaluates equipment for performance and safety.
Selects consenting patients for participation in research activities.
Explains and applies procedures to patients.
Provides respiratory therapy treatment.
Develops and maintains procedure manual.
Calibrates equipment.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of the principles and procedures of respiratory therapy.
Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.
Skill in operating, calibrating and maintaining respiratory therapy equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Completion of a training program to become a respiratory therapy technician and two years of
experience in respiratory therapy.
