Project Proposal
As part of the intern application, PowerSave Green Campus requires the submission of a project
proposal. Coming up with new project ideas and strategic implementation of those ideas is a
major part of being a PowerSave Green Campus intern. The project proposal you submit will
ideally reflect:
1. Your particular interests
2. Your writing ability
3. Your creative though process
An example of a project proposal from interns at UC Santa Cruz has been attached so you have a
clearer idea of what we’re expecting. A good project proposal will be concise, clear and
thoughtful.
Past UCSD PowerSave Green Campus Project include:
 Elevator Lighting Retrofit
 Energy retrofit of the Food Co-op
 Sunshine Market Night Cover project for open refrigeration units
 Energy Competitions
 Office energy assessments and dining hall assessments
Example Project proposal:
Mock Energy Bill Program Proposal
Because students at UCSC are not billed for their energy and water use, they have little incentive
to conserve. We propose to pilot various forms of “mock” energy bills for students to get
feedback on the amount of water and electricity being used at their dorms. The “mock” energy
bill will consist of estimates for both water and electric costs an individual student would pay for
the previous month. In different colleges, we will experiment with different forms of the bills. In
some bills, graphs may be included to show how much electricity and water was being used
throughout the year. With the graphs, students will be able to observe whether the amount of
energy they are using in increasing or decreasing. Energy saving tips will be included to inform
students on specific actions they can take to reduce the amount of energy they use. Depending on
approval, the bills will be displayed in the first-year residence hall common spaces. The posting
of new energy bills will take place on a monthly basis to show how the dorm or individual
student’s energy consumption changes in comparison to the previous month. Our goal is to raise
student awareness of energy consumption and subsequently decrease energy use in residence
halls.
