Deck The Walls 2: Our Super-Affordable Exhibition You know we make amazing work at the Art Center. You know we make a lot of it. You know there is probably a lot of our work you haven’t seen before. So, we are packing the gallery full of works on paper – hundreds of drawings -- from most of our artists. All drawings (regardless of size, medium or artist) will be only $40. At a price like this, you’ll be able to cross off most everyone on your holiday shopping list and grab lots of art for yourself. Plus, you’ll be a better person for doing it. Why? Like any other commercial gallery, our artists get half of every sale. Oh yeah, one other thing, this is the kind of exhibition where you take what you buy with you. No waiting until the show comes down. Don’t worry, we’ll replace your piece with another fabulous work. -more- Deck The Walls Release – page two The Geometry Of Cats: Recent Work From Ann Meade Ann Meade has been creating work at NIAD since 2010. Her drawings are partly Surreal – featuring seemingly random images of people and landmarks – and partly a celebration of geometry – colorful grids are awash in the background and tie the images down. Ann also builds free-standing cats out of clay, which often sport decorative lines and grids on their fronts. The Geometry Of Cats is a delightful selection of her recent work. The Holiday Lounge Returns Once again, we are filling the storefront with seasonal items and unique gifts: quilts, jewelry, clothing, baskets, wall hangings, sculptures, dinnerware and more. The comfy chairs will be back, so will the hot chocolate and record player spinning Christmas albums. And we’ve added two new products this year: An amazing limited edition print portfolio of floral still lifes from NIAD master printmaker Shana Harper. Featuring more than a dozen different prints, the portfolio is the perfectly unique gift for any art lover. Also in the Lounge, you’ll be able to pick up a delightfully glazed soup bowl, salad bowl or platter for only $20-30. These objects are part of NIAD’s new community-assistance program “Super Bowls.” When you buy one of these special bowls or platters, we will donate (in your name or whomever you designate) $5 from our share to the West County Food Bank or Meals On Wheels. Pretty super, right? About NIAD Art Center NIAD’s visual art program promotes meaningful independent living by artists with disabilities— while its artists create remarkable contemporary art. In a unique open studio environment, and with the guidance of qualified staff, NIAD artists acquire new skills in artistic practice and in independent living. As artists paint, build sculpture, mold clay, or work with textiles, their skills of observation and project management improve. As they explore and express their creativity, exhibit artwork in professional-quality galleries, participate in the community, and occasionally earn money from selling art, their feelings of independence and self-esteem increase. Each NIAD artwork is an original piece of contemporary art that tells an individual story from the perspective of an artist with disabilities. Frequently remarkable, surprising, and engaging, NIAD artwork has become a highlight of the Richmond art scene and has received recognition from the national artistic community.
