Monarch High School Acceptable Use Policy The purpose of this document is to inform parents, guardians and students of the rules governing the use of district, building and personal technology resources/devices while on or near school property, in school vehicles and at school sponsored activities, as well as the use of district or building technology resources via off-campus remote access. Please read the following carefully before signing. Boulder Valley School District / Monarch High School reserves the right to modify the terms and conditions of this document at any time. The latest version of this document is available from the Monarch High School web site at: www.bvsd.org/schools/monarchhigh Introduction Monarch High School is pleased to offer students access to district computers, communications systems, the Internet and an array of technology resources to promote educational excellence. Each student is responsible for her/his use of technology, whether personal or district-provided. While using district and personal technology resources on or near school property, in school vehicles and at school-sponsored activities, as well as using district technology resources via off-campus remote access, each student must act in an appropriate manner consistent with school, district, and legal guidelines. It is the joint responsibility of school personnel and the parent or guardian of each student to educate the student about his/her responsibilities and to establish expectations when using technology. Loss or Damage If your property is lost, damaged or stolen it is your (the student’s) responsibility to take the necessary steps to replace your technology in reasonable time. Loss or theft of property must be reported to your teachers and Monarch main office by the next day after the occurrence along with accompanying police reports or insurance documentation. Monarch will provide some form of loaner equipment in the case of loss, damage or theft. The loaner equipment is to be checked out from Monarch’s library and will be available for use for one week. After one week, the student must request an extension in order to keep the computer for an additional week. It is expected that you (the student) will make arrangements with your teachers so as not to fall behind in course work. In order that your grade is not affected you are expected to make arrangements with your teachers. Monarch High school highly recommends each family consider purchasing insurance from an independent source. Neither Monarch High School nor Boulder Valley School District insurance will cover any student’s personal property. Personally-purchased insurance may provide for repair or replacement in the event of damage or theft of your personal technology. Monarch can be responsible only for replacement or repair of technology that has been issued to students by the school . It is the student’s personal responsibility to monitor and care for his/ her technology when either in or outside of the building. For example during, field trips, sporting events or other events that the students may be attending, Boulder Valley is not responsible for the care or storage of personal technology.
