Union County Board of Developmental Disabilities POLICY Policy Number: F-4 Title: Public Nuisance Policy Regulatory Authority: Effective Date: 11/1/14, 11/16/15 Reviewer/Job Title: Operations Director or designee Page: 1 Of: 2 PUBLIC NUISANCE (A) PURPOSE The purpose of this policy is to address the growing concern regarding all public nuisance bugs, including bed bugs, and the UCBDD response in order to inform, protect, and support UCBDD staff. (B) UCBDD CAMPUSES (1) No eligible individual will be denied from participating in any UCBDD program because of an infestation of a public nuisance pest. (C) HOME VISITS (1) All eligible individuals will not be denied service due to a public nuisance infestation. (2) Procedures and precautionary information will be made available to all UCBDD staff who, as part of their job description, enter the homes of eligible individuals or individuals who are going through the UCBDD eligibility process. (2) UCBDD staff will be given UCBDD procedures to follow to minimize the possibility of acquiring a public nuisance infestation. (3) All procedures and precautionary measures will maintain the dignity of the individual being served. (D) COST OF DECONTAMINATION (1) In the event a UCBDD staff person acquires bed bugs or any other public nuisance contamination during the implementation of their assigned duties, the UCBDD, upon supervisor approval, may reimburse a staff person for the cost related to personal care and cleaning of personal property. S:/Policy & Procedures/Policy/Facilities/F-4/ap (2) UCBDD reserves the right to deny reimbursement of decontamination costs if a staff person does not follow UCBDD precautionary procedures. (E) PAYMENT (1) The UCBDD will pay for approved decontamination costs in the following ways: (a) If the cost for decontamination is $200.00 or less, the UCBDD employee will submit receipts and follow UCBDD procedure for reimbursement. (b) If the cost for decontamination exceeds $200.00, the UCBDD employee will submit an estimate for the cost of decontamination and the UCBDD will directly pay the decontamination company, following UCBDD procedure.
