POWER OF TALENT Paisley Robertson, a grade nine Char-Lan student, had an idea. Imagine if our school showcased the ‘power of talent’ to raise money for a cause that is close to her heart – Cornwall Hospice. This is the second year for this fundraiser. This year we are joining forces with Glengarry District High School. The Cornwall Hospice provides patient care for the terminally ill. Paisley’s has first-hand experience with this facility as her mother spent the last three months of her life in Hospice care. This experience inspired Paisley to give back – to initiate a fundraiser. The idea has grown wings – staff and students are behind her. “The Power of Talent” is designed to raise money and awareness for the Cornwall Hospice. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, June 9th at 6:30 pm in the Glengarry District High School cafeteria. The event will feature talented staff and students from Char-Lan, Glengarry and area. The event will also feature a silent auction made available to us from several generous community donors. Scotiabank has offered to match any funds raised by our schools to a maximum of $5000. “To make this event possible, we are hoping to count on you to come out to the school and to show your support” states Robertson. It will be a fabulous evening with amazing talent and with a worthwhile cause. We cannot wait to see you there!! Paisley is a grade nine student leader in a grade seven to twelve school. TENNIS The Char-Lan Tennis Team will resume play at Regionals on Wednesday, May 6th. We will travel to Alexandria to face competition and complete the matches that were put off due to rain back in October 2014. Students are encouraged to start preparing, and attend brief meetings to organize for practices, and the event. We are looking forward to EOSSAA on May 19th! It also means you have to take some precautions to avoid rabies, a deadly disease that can be passed on to humans through contact with mammals and bats. People usually become infected through animal bites or if the animal’s saliva comes into contact with a person’s eyes, mouth or open wound. As it’s estimated that the risk of children being infected by rabies if four times greater than adults, make sure your children and pets avoid all contact with bats and wild animals when outdoors. If you come across an injured wild animal, call animal control and let them handle the situation from there. Here are some more tips to prevent rabies: Make sure your pet’s rabies vaccine is upto-date Teach your children not to touch wild animals or pets they don’t know Supervise your pets when outdoors Have your pets spayed or neutered Report all animal bites to the EOHU DRESS CODE As the weather warms up, this is a reminder of the Crusader dress code.
