The 2013 Outstanding Asian American Youth Award Organized by Asian American Association of New Mexico (AAANM) Supported by Federal Asian Pacific American Council - NM Chapter (FAPAC-NM) and New Mexico Asian Family Center (NMAFC) Asian American Association of New Mexico (AAANM) presents the 2013 Outstanding Asian American Youth Award. This award is to recognize deserving Asian American youth who have demonstrated accomplishments within their school and local community during the period of Jan. 1, 2012 – Dec. 31, 2012 (calendar year). Outstanding Asian American Youth Award will be recognized on Feb. 26, 2013, at the International District Day & Asian American Day at the State House of New Mexico. Application Instructions and Eligibility Requirements: I. Purpose: The Asian American Day Youth Award is to recognize deserving Asian American youth who have demonstrated one or more accomplishments within their school and local community. II. Guidelines: a. Nomination is open to all NM Asian American youth, grades 9 through 12. b. Nominations must be submitted using the enclosed nomination form. Prior to submitting the nomination form, verify that your nomination package is complete. c. Nominations may be submitted by any person, school, or organization familiar with the nominee and his or her work. d. Nominations that do not meet the eligibility requirements will not be accepted. e. Deadline: Feb. 8th, 2013 (packages received after the deadline will be automatically disqualified) III. Criteria: a. 9th thru 12th grade; b. Five students will be selected and each student will be awarded a certificate from the State Legislature; c. Selection criteria: 35% - Grade (GPA – 3.0 and up): a grade transcript must be submitted 20% - Essay (what would the student do for AAANM in 400 to 500 words) 20% - Activities (e.g. sports, music, club activities, etc.) 20% - Community service 5% - Letter of Recommendation from AAANM member organizations (if applicable) IV. Obligations: a. Awardees must agree to commit to 30 hours of leadership activities while serving with and/or being mentored by leaders in the Asian community in the year of 2013. Awardees who fail to fulfill this requirement may be subject to having the certification and honor rescinded. b. Awardees are required to attend the award ceremony at the State Legislature on the International District Day & Asian American Day, February 26th, 2013.
