As a Lecturer in Maternal Care you will embrace the University’s student education strategy to provide a highly developed portfolio of undergraduate and taught postgraduate education. This will primarily be aligned to pre-registration midwifery and subjects aligned to maternal care. You will be supported in developing synergy between education and a defined programme of research.
The post will be based in the School of Healthcare (Baines Wing).

Job Description
Main Duties and Responsibilities Grade 7 and 8
Learning & Teaching
Undertake a full research informed teaching load, including contributing to the development, delivery and evaluation of cutting edge learning and teaching content and approaches informed by current and relevant research, across undergraduate and post qualification programmes and across a range of academic levels.
Contribute to initiatives and projects designed to include new styles of deep, effective learning and enhance the overall pattern of the student learning experience.
Participate in the effective supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students undertaking dissertations/projects as required.
Participate in innovative approaches to teaching and assessing, ensuring curricular processes build on best practice and maintain a strategic fit, including the development of creative strategies.
Participate in the assessment process for students, making effective use of innovative and technological methods to ensure timely developmental feedback on assessment is a vehicle for improvement.
Contribute to the recruitment and selection of students.
Contribute to the continuous process of critical review and evaluation of modules, programmes and the quality assurance mechanisms of the student learning experience as a means of driving enhancement.
Provide a range of pastoral, professional and curriculum support mechanisms that meets the needs of an increasingly diverse student body.
Engage with policy/practice and educational developments in the scholarship of teaching to ensure learning and teaching is clearly linked to wider strategic agenda and targets.
Contribute to the broad development of the discipline within a multi/interdisciplinary professional arena.

Undertake training and supervision of postgraduate research students at Master’s and Doctoral level where appropriate.

Innovation & Knowledge Transfer (IKT)

Undertake consultancy, engaging with users to draw upon and apply existing knowledge/knowhow from research or specialist subject areas to answer questions, solve problems and develop solutions for external organisations.
Participate in new initiatives and research perspectives arising out of IKT activity and contribute to their successful delivery.
Identify and apply for teaching, IKT or research awards to support developments in scholarship and promote IKT/research activities within the School.

Propose and generate new initiatives/projects and research perspectives arising out of IKT activity and contribute to their successful delivery.
Administration
Contribute to the administrative process of the School e.g. examinations/assessment, quality assurance process and general organisation and management of students on programmes.
Contribute to the organisation and management of the student experience e.g. student tracking and progression.
Make a contribution to School, Faculty and University committees as appropriate.
Remain proactive in on e’s own personal and professional development, and to undertake staff development opportunities as may be appropriate.
Undertake the role in accord with the requirements of the University’s Health & Safety Policy.
This may include ensuring that risk assessments in own area are completed, staff are aware of them and all relevant safety polices and arrangements are adhered to.
Engage in academic leadership activities commensurate with role and grade.

Education and training
A PhD in a related discipline (or close to completing a PhD/Professional Doctorate) or equivalent experience.
Hold a recognised teaching qualification (equivalent to ULTRA) or willing to undertake.

Experience of teaching undergraduate and/or postgraduate students and developing teaching materials in the subject specific subject areas.
