Pre-implantation genetic diagnosis, or PGD, is a group of advanced reproductive
techniques which allow for the analysis of the genetic health of embryos prior to transfer to the
uterus of a female patient. It allows scientists to select embryos without a detectable
abnormality and to exclude those that contain an obvious genetic abnormality. These
sophisticated procedures significantly increase the chance of having a healthy pregnancy and a
child born free of a genetic abnormality. Using a PGD technique called CGH (comparative
genome hybridisation), which comprehensively screens all 23 pairs of chromosomes, Superior
