St. Elizabeth Council, No. 12796, Knights of Columbus Grand Knight’s Report - updated - September 9, 2014 The Lead: Thanks again for coming tonight. As you have or will hear, we have a lot going on the next couple of months. Vinny and I just worked through our quarterly programs report to the State for last quarter. Fall Quarter lead programs - Church - Christmas Trees (same in 2013); Community - Habitat for Humanity Italian Dinner (Habitat); Council - Navy Game (Star Council); Family - Christmas Party (same); Youth - Coats for Kids (same); and Life - Pro Life Mass (Statues blessing). And that's not counting Spiff Up Day or Habitat. Thanks again for everyone who was able to attend - and helped out at our Installation last month - including Joe Stewart who played multiple roles, Richard Earenfight our MC, Carl Donvito who along the Susan and Wolfie Storz did most of the set up, and Bob for arranging the food. And again to Jim Begis for coordinating our new council shirts. On Thursday, I spent an hour with St. Elizabeth's Brian Crowe who heads the Justice and Service Outreach network to see how we could further our common goals. Several themes came out. One, is that there is already a lot of cross-membership between the Knights and the network - Coats for Kids, SOME, food bank. Two, is that particularly at key points just a few more participants or contributors can make a big difference. And three, in addition for ongoing opportunities, there were a couple of specific events that we could help with: the Chase Men's Shelter collection (January?), SOME contributions during the low Summer months, fundraising ideas for Marilyn Taylor for the Haiti school house construction and helping Community Support Services in the County. Recent accomplishments: Besides our installation, we attended installations for Sullivan Brothers Assembly, and Monsignor Wells, Mater Dei and Saint Joseph Manyanet Councils. We held our first regular social meeting at Rock Creek in some time; I would welcome everyone's feedback. Important reminders this month: McNamara Chapter Installation Mass on Sunday 9/14/14 at St. Elizabeth and a Crab Feast on Wednesday 9/17/14. Coffee and donuts on Sunday 9/21/14 after the 10:30 and 12:15 Masses. (Aprons and shirts.) Our next Council meeting is a combination Second Degree and Social meeting on Tuesday 9/23/14. I included an invitation to the 25 or so first degree Knights in my letter last week. And for refreshments, I would like everyone’s feedback – maybe do our long-awaited chili cook-off or pot luck? State Special Olympics Day - Saturday 9/23/14 - we're doing our second 50-50 raffle tonight with the combined proceeds going to Special Olympics. New and upcoming: We again have a state Raffle with a Ford Mustang or $15,000 cash as the grand prize. I have tickets for everyone interested - and will bring our tickets and cash raised to the Columbus Day Ball in on Saturday 10/11/14. Virtus Training at St. Elizabeth on Wednesday 10/15/14 Our Italian Dinner is scheduled for Saturday 10/18/14 - which is our anniversary and the month we are highlighted as part of the parish's 50th anniversary. Bob and Vinny are willing to help take the lead, but will need one or two more knights to help in advance - and lots of help at the event. Roger and Vinny are taking the lead on a Pro-Life Mass here at St. Elizabeth on Tuesday 10/28/14 followed by a reception as our Social Meeting that month. Fall spiff up day on Saturday 11/15/14. Tentative plans to follow with a social meeting or the Navy Football game instead of trying to hold our social meeting during Thanksgiving week. Vivat Jesus, Dave
