ALLIRA 2014 CHARDONNAY STRATHBOGIE RANGES, VICTORIA Our Vineyard At Elgo Estate our fruit is 100% estate grown, high in the upper reaches of the beautiful Strathbogie Ranges, Victoria. Our elevated altitude and soil profile ensure ideal characteristics for growing cool climate wines. The fruit for our Allira Chardonnay was harvested from our Lakeview Vineyard situated at 460m above sea level. Winemaking Description The fruit for our Allira Chardonnay was harvested on 11 March 2014 and processed in the coolest part of the day to take advantage of the cool climate conditions. This aids in the preservation of the natural flavours produced by our 35 year old vines. The juice is fermented in a range of French oak barrels and stainless steel tanks in a bid to build complexity and also maintain freshness. Tasting Description This single vineyard wine shows a brilliant light golden straw colour and has generous aromas of green apple, peach, melon and lemon zest with a hint of pineapple and a touch of oak to help round-out the complexity of the wine. These characters are carried through to the fresh and zesty palate, with a very fine acid back-bone giving the wine a well-balanced structure and ensuring a clean crisp finish complemented with a hint of very attractive vanillin type oak. This complex range of flavours and generous lengthy finish makes this a very elegant and easy drinking Chardonnay. Serving and Cellaring Suggestions This is a versatile wine that can be enjoyed with good food or simply as a nice refreshing drink. It would go equally well with any seafood dish or maybe a chicken pilaf. Medium-term cellaring potential, drinking well into 2018. Serve slightly chilled.
